The big musical event of Vendée
Created in 1987 by the association Poupet en Fête, the Festival de Poupet has established itself as one of the largest open-air festivals in Western France. Every summer, for three to four weeks between late June and mid-July, the natural site of Poupet in Saint-Malô-du-Bois transforms into an open-air performance venue with a capacity of 6,000 seats.
The Poupet green theater is a natural amphitheater carved into the hillside, offering remarkable acoustics and a unique closeness between artists and the public. Surrounded by ancient oak trees, the site overlooks the Vendée countryside and offers an intimate setting despite its large capacity. The grassy stands allow spectators to settle comfortably facing the stage.
Over the years, the festival has hosted the greatest artists: Johnny Hallyday, Charles Aznavour, Sting, Bob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, Stromae, Vianney, Orelsan, and Angèle. The program mixes international headliners, French chanson, and emerging artists, with about ten evenings spread throughout the month.
Supported by over 800 volunteers, the Festival de Poupet is a major player in the cultural life of Vendée. It generates significant economic benefits for the region and contributes to the influence of the Vendée countryside far beyond departmental borders.
The Poupet Festival celebrates its 40th edition from June 30 to July 24, 2026, in Saint-Malô-du-Bois. The program includes: 16 evenings of concerts at the Théâtre de Verdure and the Clairière du Bois Chabot, with around fifty artists including ZZ Top, Vanessa Paradis, Julien Doré, Dropkick Murphys, Gims, Christophe Maé, Zaz, and Keny Arkana. The legendary Poupet Déraille evening closes the festival on July 24 under a giant big top.
For its 40th edition, the Poupet Festival offers 16 evenings of shows and concerts from June 30 to July 24, 2026. New for 2026: for the first time, the festival will take over the Clairière du Bois Chabot for two major evenings (July 14 and July 22), in addition to the legendary Théâtre de Verdure. The Poupet Déraille evening on July 24 will adopt a circus theme under Europe's largest illuminated big top, bringing together 30,000 costumed festival-goers.
Also noteworthy are the opening show "Tout Va Très Bien" on June 30 (musical theatre, 1,000 seats) and the first Déraille Kids on July 5, a youth version of the Poupet Déraille evening.
