Quebec cinema in the spotlight in the Landes
Each autumn, Biscarrosse becomes the French capital of Quebec cinema. The Festival du Cinéma Québécois de Biscarrosse, founded in 2016, offers a complete immersion into the richness and diversity of Quebec's film production for a week in November. Feature films in preview, short films, documentaries, and animated films are screened at the Le Renoir cinema and the media library of Biscarrosse.
Since its creation, the festival has continued to grow. The 9th edition in 2024 brought together over 2,800 spectators, confirming the enthusiasm of the public in the Landes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions for Quebec cinema. The 2025 edition, marking the festival's 10th anniversary, promises to be exceptional with a prestigious jury presided over by three iconic actresses: Sara Forestier, Gabrielle Lazure, and Évelyne Bouix.
Each edition offers a demanding selection: about fifteen feature films (including ten in competition), a dozen short films, documentaries, and animated films. The films are often presented in French premiere, offering the public in the Landes the first look at cinematic discoveries. Directors such as Manon Briand, Sophie Deraspe, Bachir Bensaddek, and Ken Scott are regularly invited to present their works.
Supported by the Association Amitié France-Québec, the festival champions the values of the Francophonie and cultural exchange between France and Quebec. Beyond screenings, it offers school sessions, workshops, debates, and meetings with film crews, contributing to media literacy and intercultural dialogue.
A professional jury and an audience jury award four prizes: best feature film (jury and audience), best short film (jury and youth). These distinctions contribute to the international visibility of Quebec filmmakers and strengthen Franco-Quebec cultural ties.
The Festival du Cinéma Québécois will return for its 11th edition from November 7 to 13, 2026, in Biscarrosse. The festival will continue its mission to promote Quebec cinema with a new selection of feature films, short films, documentaries, and animated films. The program will be announced in the fall of 2026.
The festival is held every year in November, from Saturday to the following Friday (a full week).
