Performing arts and heritage at the Abbey of Villers-Canivet
Festival Falesia is a multidisciplinary festival created in 2024, blending performing arts and architectural heritage at the Cistercian Abbey of Villers-Canivet, near Falaise. Organized during the European Heritage Days, it offers theater, shows for young audiences, classical music concerts, readings, documentary screenings, and guided tours of the abbey in an exceptional setting.
Created in 2024 by the Compagnie 10:80, Festival Falesia takes over the remarkable setting of the Abbey of Villers-Canivet, a 12th-century Cistercian abbey located a few kilometers from Falaise. The festival carries a dual ambition: to be both popular and ambitious, by offering a quality multidisciplinary program in an exceptional heritage site.
Festival Falesia unfolds over three days with a varied program: theater, shows for young audiences, classical music concerts at the Chapelle du Torp (sonatas and concertos by Zelenka, Bach, Vivaldi, Marais), readings (Le Horla by Maupassant), documentary screenings, and themed evenings around sustainable development and rurality.
The Abbey of Villers-Canivet offers a unique setting for performances. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours of the abbey (6 EUR, free for under 18s) and discover the history of this Norman Cistercian gem. The festival is part of the European Heritage Days, strengthening the link between performing arts and heritage enhancement.
The third edition of Festival Falesia is expected in September 2026 at the Abbey of Villers-Canivet, as part of the European Heritage Days. The festival will offer a new program blending theater, music, shows, and guided tours of the Cistercian abbey.
Festival Falesia returns for its 3rd edition in September 2026 at the Abbey of Villers-Canivet. The festival will continue its mission of blending performing arts and heritage within the framework of the European Heritage Days.
The detailed program will be unveiled in the summer of 2026 on the festival's official website. Theater, classical music, shows for young audiences, readings, and guided tours of the abbey will once again be featured.
