Open-air cinema festival in Narbonne-Plage
The Grand Clap' Festival is an open-air cinema festival created in 2024 by the City of Narbonne in Narbonne-Plage. For five days between late July and early August, the festival offers screenings under the stars at the Théâtre de la Nature, children's sessions, documentaries, and a short film competition. Entirely free, Grand Clap' aims to make Narbonne-Plage a must-visit summer event for the 7th art, with your feet in the sand and the sea breeze as your viewing companions.
Born in 2024, the Grand Clap' Festival is the first open-air cinema festival in Narbonne-Plage. Conceived by the City of Narbonne, this free event transforms the Théâtre de la Nature and other emblematic locations in the seaside resort into open-air cinemas every summer. Screenings begin at nightfall, offering spectators a unique cinematic experience between the sea and the stars.
The Grand Clap' Festival offers a rich and varied program centered around an annual theme. The first edition in 2024 was dedicated to the oceans, with screenings of Luc Besson's The Big Blue, The Odyssey starring Lambert Wilson and Pierre Niney, and Flo, a biopic of the sailor Florence Arthaud. The festival also includes a short film competition with over 300 films submitted, an audience award, and a professional jury awarding the best film prize and a special mention.
Screenings are spread across three sites in Narbonne-Plage: the Théâtre de la Nature, an open-air amphitheater that can accommodate 2,700 people, the Espace Dominique-Baudis for indoor screenings and the short film competition, and the Terrasses de la Mer where spectators enjoy screenings with their feet in the sand. This diversity of locations offers a multifaceted cinematic experience, between intimacy and grand spectacle.
All screenings are free, with simple reservation via the City of Narbonne website. Children's sessions are scheduled during the day, while evenings are dedicated to feature films and heritage films. The festival also offers meetings with directors and festive moments on the beach, making Grand Clap' a friendly and accessible event that celebrates cinema in all its diversity.
The Grand Clap' Festival returns in summer 2026 for its 3rd edition in Narbonne-Plage. Free open-air screenings, short film competition, and children's sessions. Dates and program to be confirmed.
