The music festival at the heart of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay
The Festival Grandes Marées is a summer music event held annually in July in Jullouville, at the heart of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. Heir to the Festival Jazz en Baie created in 2010, it took its current name in 2021 to broaden its programming to contemporary music and French chanson. With two stages, a lively and immersive village, the festival offers a week of concerts in an idyllic setting between land and sea, with a capacity of 3,200 festival-goers per evening.
The history of the Festival Grandes Marées began in 2009 with Les Fuites de Jazz, a series of jazz concerts offered from April to July in several towns along the Manche coast of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. Building on this success, the organizing association launched the Festival Jazz en Baie in 2010: eight days dedicated to jazz along the entire bay coastline.
In 2014, the festival reached 10,000 festival-goers. In 2020, after the tenth edition of Jazz en Baie, the association Baie en Scène was created to evolve the project towards new musical aesthetics. The Festival Grandes Marées was thus born in 2021, succeeding Jazz en Baie with a program open to contemporary music, French chanson, and electro, while retaining the friendly spirit of its predecessor.
The festival unfolds in an exceptional natural setting, between the towns of Jullouville and Genêts, in the heart of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. The site, nestled between land and sea, offers a breathtaking view of the bay and Mont-Saint-Michel. With two stages, a lively and immersive village, and a capacity of 3,200 festival-goers per evening, the festival offers an intimate and high-quality experience.
Each year, the Festival Grandes Marées offers seven evenings of concerts mixing French chanson, variety, pop, rock, electro, and musical discoveries. The program combines renowned artists with emerging young talents, offering a rich musical panorama accessible to all audiences.
The festival is not limited to concerts. It offers activities with local associations to raise public awareness about coastal protection and the work of the SNSM (Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer), thus anchoring the event in its territory and its environmental issues.
Since its creation, the Festival Grandes Marées has experienced steady growth, driven by the quality of its programming and the exceptional attractiveness of its site. The festival has become an essential summer event for music lovers and the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
