First festival of travel and adventure in Ardèche, organized by the web radio Allô la Planète
The Festival Joyeuse Escale was born in 2022 on the initiative of the web radio Allô la Planète, a media dedicated to travel and world discovery. This festival quickly established itself as the first festival of travel and adventure in Ardèche, transforming the village of Joyeuse into a stopover for all lovers of travel, exploration, and world cultures.
The heart of the festival consists of screenings of travelers' films — about thirty sessions featuring twenty documentary films shot in the four corners of the world. These screenings are complemented by meetings with authors of travelogues and illustrators of travel journals, who come to share their experiences and sign their works. In 2025, the festival hosted 21 authors and offered 30 screening sessions.
The Festival Joyeuse Escale also offers photographic exhibitions dedicated to travel and the discovery of distant cultures and landscapes. In 2024, seven exhibitions were presented in various locations in the village. Shows and concerts complete the program, creating a festive and cosmopolitan atmosphere in the streets of Joyeuse. Workshops on travel — writing journals, photography, travel preparation — allow visitors to learn the art of travel.
The festival organizes round tables and conferences on themes related to travel, adventure, and world discovery. These discussion sessions bring together travelers, writers, photographers, and responsible tourism professionals, offering festival-goers original perspectives on the art of traveling and on contemporary travel issues.
An exhibitor village brings together about ten professionals and associations related to travel, offering advice, equipment, and destinations. Access to the festival is organized with a price of 6 euros for screenings (5 euros for 13-18 year olds, free for under 12s), while all other activities — round tables, concerts, exhibitions, shows, author encounters — are free. This pricing model makes the festival accessible to the greatest number.
4th edition of the Joyeuse Escale Festival, from May 12 to 17, 2026 in Joyeuse (Ardèche). Six days of travel films, meetings with authors and adventurers, photo exhibitions, concerts, workshops, conferences, and round tables around travel and adventure, organized by the web radio Allô la Planète.
For its 4th edition, the Joyeuse Escale Festival was held from Tuesday, May 12 to Sunday, May 17, 2026, over the Ascension long weekend, in Joyeuse in southern Ardèche. The festival took over the Espace Grand Font (room 1, room 2 and base camp) as well as several village locations: the Bistrot de la Grand Font, Ma p'tite bouquinerie and Le Grain de Malice.
At the heart of the 2026 program, 38 screening sessions allowed the discovery of 25 documentary films shot around the world: bike trips (Un vent de liberté, La marguerite à vélo, Le coup basque), pedestrian crossings (Via Alpina, sur les pas des pionnières, Alpes-Himalaya, la route des cimes, Les rêves du désert), whitewater expeditions (YUKON 2571), vertical adventures (Un jour pour ouvrir, Les vertiges de la liberté, Rêves de Gangstang), pilgrimage stories (Sur la ligne sacrée de Saint Michel), portraits of solo female travelers (Voyageuses à la rencontre d'aventurières solitaires) or intimate and cultural quests (Les héritiers de la Marche, Êtres En Nature, Chakana).
The 2026 program also offered several evening concerts at the Grand Font base camp (Journeyman, Pendelhon, Victo and the freaks, Le bal Ashnikov), conferences on wild mountains, travel to the Great North, 4500 km of walking in Europe, nomadic life in a van, or travel with a disability, as well as round tables on exploration as commitment, traveling with donkeys, extreme territories, water-based itinerancy, and displacement as emancipation.
