About Littérature au Centre
Littérature au Centre — edition 2026
11th edition: Why the news item?
The 11th edition of the Festival Littérature au Centre takes place from March 24 to 29, 2026 in Clermont-Ferrand. This year's theme, “Why the news item?”, explores how news items feed and inspire literary creation. As Alexandre Vialatte noted, the news item functions as a modern substitute for the melodrama of Shakespeare and Hugo.
Among the 18 invited authors: Grégoire Bouillier, Bernard Bourrit, Claro, Julia Deck, Dana Grigorcea, Carlos Gamerro, Laurent Mauvignier, Yves Ravey, Fanny Taillandier, Patricia Tourancheau, and Tanguy Viel. The program includes literary interviews, shows, conferences, exhibitions, and contributions from historians, journalists, and publishers.

Living literature at the heart of Auvergne
Created in 2015, the Festival Littérature au Centre (LAC) has become over a decade an unmissable event in the literary life of Clermont-Ferrand and Auvergne. Supported by the association Littérature Au Centre d'Auvergne, the festival brings together authors, historians, sociologists, scientists, and artists every year at the end of March around a renewed literary theme.
A week of encounters and performances
The festival unfolds over a week at the Maison de la Culture de Clermont-Ferrand and the Hôtel Littéraire Alexandre Vialatte. The program is rich and multidisciplinary: interviews with authors, shows, conferences, concerts, performance readings, exhibitions, book signings, and screenings of documentary films. This diversity of formats allows literature to be approached from all angles and to reach a wide audience.
Ambitious themes
Each edition explores an ambitious literary theme. In 2025, for its 10th edition, the festival was dedicated to “Literature and rural worlds”, under the honorary presidency of Marie-Hélène Lafon, president of the 51st Prix du Livre Inter. In 2026, the 11th edition explores the theme “Why the news item?”, questioning how news items feed literary creation.
A free festival open to all
All conferences, shows, and concerts of the Festival Littérature au Centre are free. This total freeness reflects the association's desire to make literature accessible to as many people as possible and to democratize access to literary culture.
An eco-responsible commitment
The festival is committed to an eco-responsible approach concerning communication, decoration, catering, mobility, and waste management. This commitment reflects an environmental awareness that permeates the entire organization of the event.
