Sonik Festival: a sonic tasting in Quimper
The Sonik Festival was born in 2013 within the Théâtre de Cornouaille, Quimper's national stage. Conceived as a «sonic tasting», this original festival offers each spring a musical journey where music becomes mischievous to capture imaginations. In over a decade, Sonik has established itself as an unmissable event for contemporary musical creation in Cornouaille.
A claimed eclecticism
Sonik stands out for its asserted eclecticism. The festival boldly blends contemporary classical music, jazz, world music, atypical Breton and traditional music, as well as hybrid forms combining music, theatre, and performance. Each edition offers about ten shows and concerts spread over three weeks in May, allowing spectators to discover internationally renowned artists in varied and often surprising registers.
Emblematic venues in Quimper
One of the riches of the Sonik Festival lies in the diversity of its performance venues. Concerts take over the main hall and the Atelier of the Théâtre de Cornouaille, the Novomax, the Terrain Blanc at the MPT de Penhars, and depending on the edition, the Saint-Corentin Cathedral or the Théâtre Max Jacob. This urban itinerancy allows for the creation of unique acoustic experiences, with each venue bringing its own sound and atmosphere to the musical program.
A festival supported by a national stage
Sonik benefits from the expertise and network of the Théâtre de Cornouaille, one of Brittany's national stages. This institutional foundation allows the festival to program leading artists while maintaining accessible prices (26 € full price, 18 € reduced price, 12 € for under 12s). The festival notably collaborates with the Ensemble Sillages, a contemporary music ensemble based in Quimper, strengthening the event's local roots.
