Living art festival in Le Relecq-Kerhuon
Festival Thermos is a winter event for performing arts organized every year in February in Le Relecq-Kerhuon, in the Brest metropolitan area, by the city's cultural department. Created in 2021, this "winteractive" festival transforms the area around the municipal swimming pool and various locations in the town into a festive and cultural village for a week, featuring theater, circus, street arts, music, and burlesque performances. Designed to warm hearts in the midst of the Breton winter, Thermos offers a family-friendly and accessible program combining indoor and outdoor shows, original dinner-shows, creative workshops, mobile sauna sessions, and games for all ages. The festival emphasizes proximity between artists and audiences, originality of artistic forms, and conviviality to create a human-scale event where everyone can dream, explore, laugh, and share. Free or low-cost, Thermos has become a highlight of the Finistère cultural season.
Since 2021, Festival Thermos has brought a breath of cultural warmth to the heart of the Breton winter every February. Organized in Le Relecq-Kerhuon, a town in the Brest metropolitan area, this "winteractive" festival has established itself in just a few editions as a must-see event for performing arts in Finistère, offering an original formula that blends artistic creativity, conviviality, and a festive spirit.
The concept of Thermos was born from a simple yet audacious idea: to transform winter into a cultural season. For a week, the areas around the municipal swimming pool, L'Astrolabe, and various locations in the town are transformed into a festive and ephemeral village. The festival draws its name from the everyday object that keeps things warm: like a thermos, it preserves and diffuses human warmth, the warmth of encounters between artists and audiences, the warmth of shared laughter and emotions.
Each edition of Thermos offers a multidisciplinary program that showcases performing arts in all its forms: street theater, contemporary circus, burlesque shows, object theater, slam poetry, musical theater, and physical performances. The invited companies, from all over France, present original creations often designed for the event. The program is resolutely family-friendly, with shows suitable for all ages, from 3 or 4 years old for some.
Beyond the shows, Thermos offers original experiences that make it unique: themed dinner-shows ("God Save the Fish", Mexican night...), mobile sauna sessions, free game afternoons with snacks provided, artistic installations, and encounters with quirky characters like Providence, the festival's fortune teller. These participatory moments create a warm and offbeat atmosphere that is the charm of the event.
Thermos cultivates its human-scale format. The proximity between artists and audiences, the small capacities, the unusual performance venues, and the friendly atmosphere create an intimate and generous cultural experience. The festival is run by the cultural department of the town of Le Relecq-Kerhuon, with the support of Brest métropole, and benefits from the commitment of numerous volunteers who help make each edition a moment of sharing and discovery.
True to its values of cultural democratization, Thermos offers many free events and low prices for paid shows. The opening Sunday and closing Sunday are entirely free, with activities for the whole family. Bookings are made online via Weezevent, and dinner-shows are available by registering with the town's cultural department.
