Coutances in music to celebrate the summer solstice
Coutances has a special connection with music. Host city of the renowned Jazz sous les Pommiers festival, this Norman cathedral city extends this musical tradition every year during the Fête de la Musique. The event spans several days around June 21st, taking over the streets, squares, bars, and cultural venues of the city for free concerts and open stages.
The Fête de la Musique program in Coutances is distinguished by its diversity. The downtown concerts on June 21st are the heart of the event, with stages set up on the main squares. The Musée Quesnel-Morinière hosts an original open stage, blending music and heritage in a historic setting. Bars and cafes in the city also feature artists, creating a musical trail through the city's alleys.
In Coutances, the Fête de la Musique is not limited to June 21st alone. Festivities extend over several days, with concerts in bars and venues starting on Friday evening. This expanded program reflects the vitality of the local music scene and the attachment of Coutances residents to music in all its forms: rock, pop, French chanson, electronic music, jazz, and world music.
The Fête de la Musique in Coutances is an entirely free event that brings together residents and visitors in an atmosphere of sharing and musical discovery. Cafe terraces fill up, squares come alive, and music resonates through the streets of this city that, from its spring jazz to its summer festival, never stops vibrating to the rhythm of the notes.
