Saint-Lô vibrates to the rhythm of music every June 21st
The Fête de la Musique is undoubtedly the most unifying popular event in Saint-Lô. Every June 21st, the prefecture of Manche transforms into a huge open-air music stage, hosting over 40 bands and artists in the streets, squares, and bars-restaurants of the city center, which is entirely closed to traffic for the occasion.
The highlight of the evening takes place on the Plage Verte, the emblematic green space overlooking the city. A large stage is set up there for an exceptional concert of nearly four hours, featuring the greatest international hits of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s performed by renowned artists. This free concert attracts thousands of spectators each year in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
From 6:30 PM, students from the city's music department take over the Place du Général de Gaulle for a concert that highlights the diversity of musical education: jazz, percussion, amplified contemporary music. These young musicians kick off an evening that will last until the early hours of the morning, with local bands performing in the numerous bars and restaurants in the city center.
The center of Saint-Lô, entirely pedestrianized for the occasion, becomes a vast space for musical wandering. Ephemeral stages are set up at several strategic intersections, while café and restaurant terraces host acoustic groups and DJ sets. The event is entirely free, in keeping with the tradition of the Fête de la Musique initiated by Jack Lang in 1982, and contributes to the animation and dynamism of Saint-Lô's city center. This evening has become a must-attend event for the residents of the metropolitan area.
The Fête de la Musique returns on Sunday, June 21, 2026, to Saint-Lô. The main stage at Plage Verte, set up at the foot of the ramparts along the Vire, hosts nearly 5 hours of free concerts: DJ Matt'U opens the evening around 7:30 PM, followed by Saint-Lô singer Jayde (revealed in « La France a un incroyable talent »), then the pop-rock band Les Wampas for nearly 1h30 of concert, before Maddy Jay's closing electro set.
About thirty groups also perform throughout the pedestrianized city center, in the streets, squares, and in the bars and restaurants. Between 20,000 and 30,000 people are expected for this entirely free evening.
