Five municipal stages and free concerts throughout the city on June 21, 2026
Every June 21, Nîmes celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival) throughout its historic center: from Place de la Maison Carrée to Place d'Assas, from the small squares of the Écusson to churches and temples, squares and streets transform into open stages. Organized by the City of Nîmes, the day is entirely free and blends all styles, from rock to rap, from salsa to afrobeat, from classical to electronic music.
Since its national creation in 1982, the Fête de la Musique has become one of Nîmes' major popular summer events. On June 21, music freely takes over public spaces: amateurs, conservatory students, and established artists perform in the squares, forecourts, and small squares of the city center, from late afternoon until the heart of the night.
For the 2026 edition, the City of Nîmes is setting up five large municipal stages: Place de la Maison Carrée, Place d'Assas, Place Questel, Place du Chapitre, and Place de la Calade. These are complemented by numerous partner and associative stages spread throughout the center — Square Antonin dedicated to metal, Place Bellecroix, neighborhood stages, participating bars and restaurants.
The Nîmes conservatory animates Place du Chapitre (strings, brass, chamber music, harmony, saxophone), while the temples and churches in the center (Temple de l'Oratoire, Cathedral, Église Saint-Charles) host classical and organ concerts. Genres coexist without hierarchy: rock, pop, metal, French chanson, salsa, afrobeat, rap, house, techno, folk, and traditional Occitan music.
The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Nîmes will take place on Sunday, June 21st, free of charge throughout the city center. The City of Nîmes will set up five municipal stages — Maison Carrée, place d'Assas, place Questel, place du Chapitre, and place de la Calade — complemented by numerous partner and associative stages.
