Lavit and the Hazelnuts of Lomagne
Lavit, a small village in Lomagne tarn-et-garonnaise, has been perpetuating its great autumn tradition dedicated to hazelnuts for seventeen years. The Fête de la Noisette et Saveurs d'Automne celebrates this emblematic local fruit every October, harvested from hazelnut trees that line the hedges and orchards of this gently rolling bocage landscape.
Lomagne — a term designating both a community of communes in Tarn-et-Garonne and a natural region straddling Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, and Lot-et-Garonne — is historically renowned for its high-quality market gardening and fruit production. Hazelnuts have been cultivated here for generations, gracing the rural landscapes with their beautiful hedges and gracing the inhabitants' tables with their golden autumn fruits.
The 17th Edition in 2025
The 2025 edition, organized on October 12, 2025, marks the 17th edition of the festival. Around the Place de la Halle, the vibrant heart of the village, producers, artisans, and exhibitors take over the space for a festive day that blends local gastronomy, crafts, and popular entertainment.
Festival Highlights
The Fête de la Noisette et Saveurs d'Automne offers a complete and family-friendly program:
- Producers' Market: Fresh and dried hazelnuts, artisanal praline, hazelnut oil, hazelnut cake, and the full range of local processed products are showcased alongside other Lomagne specialties: IGP white garlic, Tarbais beans, candied melons, jams, honeys, artisanal cheeses, and cured meats.
- Autumn Flavors: Producers from all over Lomagne offer their seasonal specialties — squashes, apples and pears, chestnuts, table grapes, artisanal foie gras, local wines — making the festival a true showcase of Tarn-et-Garonne's autumn gastronomy.
- Local Crafts: Creators and artisans exhibit their work: ceramics, basketry, leather goods, jewelry, textiles, turned wood, and other manual skills that enrich Lomagne's rural craftsmanship.
- Miniature Train: To the delight of the youngest attendees, a miniature train winds through the village and its surroundings, offering the whole family a chance to discover Lavit's built and natural heritage.
- Flea Market: A vast popular flea market where individuals and professionals display their finds and curiosities from yesteryear, attracting bargain hunters and lovers of good deals.
- Family Entertainment: Creative workshops for children, old-fashioned games, craft demonstrations, street performances, and musical entertainment ensure the festival is accessible and joyful for everyone.
The Hall and Heritage of Lavit
The Place de la Halle in Lavit is the beating heart of this Lomagne village. The traditional hall, the site of the weekly market and festive gatherings, provides a setting that is both functional and steeped in history, offering shelter to exhibitors and visitors from the warmth of the Indian summer or the first autumn rains.
Lavit is a typical rural commune of Lomagne: its red brick houses, its hillsides of sunflowers and corn, its orchards, and its hazelnut trees create a harmonious and serene rural landscape that reflects the art de vivre of this preserved corner of Tarn-et-Garonne. The festival is an opportunity to discover it or rediscover it during this festive and convivial day.
A Priority Rural Festival, a True Social Link
In a rural area where major metropolitan events do not find their place, the Fête de la Noisette de Lavit plays a fundamental social and cultural role. It maintains the connection between residents, promotes the work of local farmers and artisans, attracts visitors from all over Lomagne, and contributes to the economic dynamism of an area often far from usual tourist routes. For seventeen years, it has proven that authentic rural festivals are more relevant than ever.
