The great Norman agricultural festival
The Fête de la Normandie celebrates Normandy's agricultural, equestrian, and gastronomic heritage every year in the heart of Argentan. This event has become a must-attend gathering for breeders, producers, and the general public, offering an exceptional showcase of Norman know-how.
The departmental competition for the Norman breed
The centerpiece of the event, the departmental competition for the Norman breed, is the most important in the region, with the presentation of 130 animals. The best breeders from Orne and neighboring departments present their cattle in various categories, under the expert eye of the judges. This competition contributes to the promotion and preservation of the Norman breed, an emblem of the regional agricultural heritage.
A complete agricultural show
In total, nearly 200 animals of various breeds are presented during the festival: Norman cows, Percheron horses, ponies, donkeys, sheep, goats, and poultry. About a hundred breeders from all over the region participate in the event, accompanied by over 60 exhibitors offering local products, agricultural equipment, and local crafts.
Equestrian demonstrations and educational farm
Horse enthusiasts are not left out, with equestrian demonstrations throughout the day, showcasing regional breeds such as the Cob normand and the Percheron. The educational farm allows children and families to discover farm animals, understand the work of breeders, and learn about agricultural practices.
Gastronomy and conviviality
The Fête de la Normandie is also a great moment for Norman gastronomy. Local producers offer their specialties: AOP cheeses (camembert, livarot, pont-l'évêque), cider, perry, calvados, charcuterie, dairy products, and regional pastries. Concerts and cultural entertainment complete the program for a festive and family-friendly day.
