Fête de la Saint-Vincent de Vouvray
The Fête de la Saint-Vincent de Vouvray is one of the most beautiful and authentic wine celebrations in Touraine. Every year, at the end of January, winegrowers from the AOC Vouvray appellation gather to honor Saint Vincent, patron saint of winegrowers, in an event combining tradition, conviviality, and pride in the terroir.
A centuries-old tradition
Saint Vincent marks the beginning of a new agricultural cycle. After the vines' winter rest, work resumes in the vineyards, and winegrowers celebrate their patron saint to place the new season under good auspices. In Vouvray, this tradition has been passed down through generations and is a moment of cohesion and pride for the entire winegrowing community.
Parade in traditional costumes
The day begins with a traditional parade of winegrowers in period costumes through the streets of Vouvray, accompanied by brass bands and music. This picturesque and colorful procession attracts locals and visitors, creating a festive and popular atmosphere. The parade leads participants to the church of Vouvray for a traditional religious ceremony.
Festivities at the Bonne Dame cellars
After the ceremony, the festivities continue in the Bonne Dame cellars, an emblematic troglodyte setting in Vouvray. This is an opportunity for wine brotherhoods to induct new members and celebrate the upcoming vintage. Tastings of Vouvray wines accompany these moments of conviviality and sharing.
An identity event
The Fête de la Saint-Vincent de Vouvray is more than just a festive event: it is a strong identity marker for the winegrowers and inhabitants of Vouvray. It testifies to the vitality of Touraine's wine traditions and the deep bond that unites the men and women of the vineyard to their land and their history.
