The new literary fair of Fontainebleau, between history and literature
The Fête du Livre de Fontainebleau is a new literary fair created in 2025, bringing together around thirty authors — novelists, historians, illustrators — at the Théâtre Municipal and the Hôtel de l'Aigle Noir. A day of meetings, conferences, signings, and workshops for all audiences, covering literature, history, comic books, and culinary arts, in the imperial city of Fontainebleau.
The Fête du Livre de Fontainebleau was born in 2025 from the desire to create a major literary event in this historic city in Seine-et-Marne. Organized by the association Histoire Histoires, this first edition is part of the rich cultural tradition of Fontainebleau, a city that has inspired generations of writers, artists, and historians. The fair takes place in two emblematic locations in the city center: the Théâtre Municipal, a magnificent Italian-style theater from the early 20th century, and the Hôtel de l'Aigle Noir, a prestigious establishment located on Place Napoléon Bonaparte, opposite the château.
The first edition of the Book Fair brings together around thirty renowned authors in various genres: novels, history, philosophy, memoirs, comic books, children's books, and culinary arts. Visitors can meet the authors during free signing sessions throughout the day. In parallel, fifteen conferences punctuate the program, hosted by writers and intellectuals who share their passion for writing, history, and ideas. The fair is distinguished by the quality of its programming, which emphasizes exchanges between authors and readers in an intimate and warm atmosphere.
The Fête du Livre de Fontainebleau is designed to welcome all audiences, from passionate readers to families with children. Workshops are offered to introduce younger audiences to the pleasure of reading and writing. The topics covered in the conferences span a wide range: literature, history — particularly that of Fontainebleau and its château —, philosophy, life stories, and culinary arts. This diversity reflects the fair's ambition to appeal to all curiosities and to show that books remain a formidable vector for discovery and sharing.
The choice of Fontainebleau to host this new book fair is no coincidence. The imperial city, dominated by its UNESCO World Heritage château, is a place steeped in history and culture where kings, emperors, artists, and writers have crossed paths. From Stendhal to George Sand, from Théophile Gautier to Robert Louis Stevenson, many authors have been inspired by the beauty of the forest and the majesty of the château. The Fête du Livre is part of this tradition by offering a literary event worthy of the exceptional cultural heritage of the Bellifontain city.
