The celebration of seafood and fishing trades
Since its creation, the Fête du Port de Pêche has become a must-attend event for the people of La Rochelle and seafood lovers. Every June, the Chef-de-Baie port welcomes thousands of visitors celebrating fishing trades and tasting local specialties.
The highlight of the festival is the grand seafood buffet: grilled sardines, mackerel, oysters, freshly caught mussels. Visitors can enjoy these delicacies in a festive and friendly atmosphere by the water.
The festival also offers maritime activities: knot-tying demonstrations, marine knots, fish market tours, fresh fish sales, concerts, and meetings with fishing professionals. It's an opportunity to discover the trades and know-how of La Rochelle fishermen.
The Fishing Port Festival returns on Saturday, June 6, 2026, to the tarmac of the Chef-de-Baie port in La Rochelle, from 12 PM to 5 PM. A festive and friendly day centered around sea professions, a grand buffet of local La Rochelle seafood products, and traditional maritime activities.
After a break in the city center during the 2025 Maritime Festivals, the traditional Fishing Port Festival returns to its usual location on the tarmac of the Chef-de-Baie Fishing Port. More than 6,000 residents of La Rochelle, the agglomeration, and visitors are expected on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12 PM to 5 PM, to celebrate the sea and its professions in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
As every year, the highlight of the day is the grand seafood buffet: grilled sardines, mackerel, oysters, and mussels from local fishing, served by volunteers from neighborhood committees and partner associations. The organizers mobilize over 150 volunteers to make this day a moment of sharing around the heritage, traditions, and flavors of La Rochelle's fishing industry.
The usual program includes: visits to the fish auction and fish stall, demonstrations of seamanship and marine knots, presentation of fishing gear, meetings with professionals from the Syndicat Mixte du Port de Pêche and students from the Lycée Maritime et Aquacole, fresh fish sales, and a musical stage to accompany lunch. The detailed 2026 program will be published soon on the website of the City of La Rochelle and that of the Fishing Port.
