The lake festivals in the heart of the Côte Landaise
The Fêtes de Vielle-Saint-Girons, also known as the Fêtes du Lac, bring together residents and holidaymakers every summer in this commune on the Côte Landaise for a festive evening by the lake. The program includes a large country meal with roast suckling pig, a musical stage hosted by a DJ, and a spectacular fireworks display over the lake at 11 p.m. These lake festivals perpetuate the tradition of Landes summer festivals in an exceptional natural setting between pine forest, lake, and ocean.
Nestled in the heart of the Côte Landaise, between the Atlantic Ocean and the pine forest, the commune of Vielle-Saint-Girons celebrates its lake festivals every summer in a setting of remarkable natural beauty. The shores of the Vielle lake, lined with maritime pines and oaks, are transformed for one evening into a popular festival venue where permanent residents and summer visitors gather.
The country meal is the heart of these lake festivals. Served outdoors on the shores, it offers a traditional menu featuring roast suckling pig with fries and an apple tart for adults. A children's menu with lomo, fries, and ice cream is also available. These outdoor gatherings, set up facing the lake in the gentle summer evening, create a friendly and warm atmosphere where conversations mingle with the sounds of nature.
A musical stage livens up the evening with a DJ who gets the festival-goers dancing on the lake shores. The All Pop format guarantees a varied and festive musical program, suitable for all tastes and generations. The improvised dance floor by the water offers a unique setting for lovers of outdoor evenings.
The fireworks display, launched at 11 p.m. from the lake, is the highlight of the evening. The multicolored rockets are reflected in the calm waters of the lake, creating a doubly magical spectacle. This moment of shared contemplation, facing the illuminated lake, is one of the most beautiful fireworks displays on the Côte Landaise and attracts spectators from all the surrounding communes.
Vielle-Saint-Girons benefits from a preserved natural environment between the ocean, lakes, and pine forest. The lake, which gives its name to the festivals, is a popular swimming and relaxation spot for families. The lake festivals offer a chance to rediscover this setting in a festive atmosphere, as night falls on the forest and the lights of the lanterns are reflected in the water.
The Fêtes de Vielle-Saint-Girons are part of the long tradition of Landes summer festivals. The commune, whose population increases tenfold in the summer thanks to its campsites and holiday residences, offers through these lake festivals a moment of gathering between the permanent community and loyal holidaymakers who return each year. Other festive events punctuate the year, such as the beer festival in October or the May festivals, testifying to the associative vitality of this commune on the Côte Landaise.
The festivities take place on the shores of the Vielle lake, in Vielle-Saint-Girons (40560). The lake is located in the heart of the commune, accessible from the village.
The lake festivals are held every year in July, usually on the last Saturday of the month. In 2025, they were scheduled for Saturday, July 26th, from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The meal is served on the lake shores from 7:30 p.m. It is advisable to arrive early to find a good spot. A refreshment stand is open throughout the evening.
