The largest astronomy festival in France
The Fleurance Astronomy Festival is the largest public astronomy event in France. Since 1991, it has transformed this small town in the Gers into the capital of astronomy each summer, welcoming thousands of curious individuals to observe the stars and meet leading scientists.
For a week in early August, the festival offers 11 events per day: conferences, courses, workshops, screenings, and night observations. Over 50 renowned scientists and researchers lead these events, covering all fields of astronomy, from cosmology to space exploration, including astrobiology.
The festival is aimed at all audiences, from beginners to advanced learners. The Science Marathon offers various talks around a common theme. The "New Lights" series features conferences led by young PhD students. The Astro-Kids Festival is dedicated to children and teenagers.
Every evening, observation sessions are organized with professional telescopes, allowing attendees to contemplate planets, nebulae, and galaxies in the clear Gers sky, far from the light pollution of big cities.
