The great traditional fair of La Brenne for over 40 years
The Foire aux Oisons de Martizay is one of the most popular events in the Indre department. Every May 2nd, the small village of Martizay, nestled in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of La Brenne, comes alive with a traditional fair that attracts thousands of visitors. For over 40 years, this fair has perpetuated a rural tradition deeply rooted in the heritage of Berry.
On the day of the fair, over 200 stalls are set up on the fairground and in the streets of Martizay. Exhibitors offer a wide variety of products: poultry sales and goslings (young geese), plants and flowers, local crafts, agricultural equipment, shoes, clothing, small appliances, and second-hand items. The fair is an opportunity for the people of La Brenne and surrounding areas to gather in a friendly and warm atmosphere.
The heart of the fair remains the goose competition, which perpetuates the poultry tradition of La Brenne. Breeders present their finest specimens of goslings and adult geese, judged on breed, conformation, and plumage. This competition recalls the historical importance of goose farming in this region of marshes and ponds, where waterfowl have always played a central role in the rural economy.
The fair offers a rich program of entertainment for the whole family. Fairground rides and children's attractions are set up on the fairground. A free face painting service with souvenir photos is offered to the youngest. On-site catering allows visitors to taste local specialties and products from the Berry region. Musical entertainment and craft demonstrations complete the program for this festive day.
Organized by the Association of Artisans, Merchants, and Liberal Professions of Martizay, the Foire aux Oisons has become an unmissable event in the calendar of manifestations in Indre. It contributes to the liveliness and dynamism of the village of Martizay, while perpetuating the rural traditions of La Brenne. It is a unique opportunity to discover the life of a village in Berry celebrating and to support local producers and artisans.

The 48th edition of the Martizay Gosling Fair was held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9 AM to 6 PM, in the village center, in the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park. Organized by the Association of Artisans, Merchants, and Liberal Professions of Martizay, the fair remained faithful to its traditional date of May 2 and its historic format as a major popular Berrichon event.
Over 200 stalls were set up on the fairground and in the village streets: sale of poultry and goslings, flea market, plants and vegetation, local crafts, agricultural equipment, shoes, clothing, and small household appliances. As reported by La Nouvelle République in its article dedicated to the 2026 edition, the organizers enriched the program of entertainment and surprises to compensate for the uncertainties surrounding the goose competition (avian health context), including class photos and an expanded funfair.
Regarding free entertainment, children enjoyed face painting with souvenir photos and the funfair rides installed on the fairground. On-site catering allowed visitors to taste local specialties and Berrichon regional products throughout the day. Admission to the fair, as every year, was free.
Martizay is located in the south of Indre, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of La Brenne.
