The Foire de L'Île-Rousse (Fiera di Lisula)
The Foire de L'Île-Rousse, known as Fiera di Lisula in Corsican, is one of the island's most historic events. It originated from a royal decree on October 5, 1828. Originally an agro-pastoral fair marking the end of the summer grazing season as shepherds brought their herds down from the mountains, it was held at a site called e Padule, which later became the Cours Napoléon promenade. The event has since expanded to five days. Today, the A Marinella Festival Committee organizes the fair on Place Paoli and throughout the town center, spanning the turn of September and October.
A fair in three parts
The fair is spread across three main areas:
- Crafts: Artisans and producers showcasing local crafts, Corsican products, gastronomy, clothing, and accessories.
- Festivities: Located on Place Paoli, featuring refreshment stalls run by local associations and daytime entertainment.
- Funfair: Rides and attractions for all ages.
Every evening, a free concert takes place on Place Paoli, typically featuring artists from the Corsican music scene.
