The great popular fair and flea market of Sainte-Anne in the heart of Sologne
The Foire de Lamotte-Beuvron, associated with the Fête de la Sainte-Anne, is a popular summer event in Sologne. Organized at the end of July by the Comité des Fêtes, it brings together second-hand dealers, traveling merchants, and fairground operators on the Bassin du Canal. The weekend includes a large flea market and "foire à tout" (everything fair) with over 150 exhibitors, a guinguette dance on Friday evening, a pétanque tournament on Saturday, and family entertainment.
Each summer, at the end of July, Lamotte-Beuvron hosts its grand popular fair, a festive event that is part of the Sologne fair tradition and accompanies the Fête de la Sainte-Anne, the patron saint of the commune. Organized by the Comité des Fêtes de Lamotte-Beuvron, this event transforms the town center into a vast space for commerce, leisure, and conviviality.
The highlight of the fair is the large Sunday flea market and "foire à tout", which brings together over 150 exhibitors — antique dealers and individuals — around the Bassin du Canal, the green lung of Lamotte-Beuvron. Bargain hunters can find antique furniture, tableware, books, vinyl records, trinkets, vintage clothing, and collectibles of all kinds. Traveling merchants also offer regional products: Sologne honey, artisanal jams, sausages, cheeses, and local specialties.
The Foire de Lamotte-Beuvron is not just about commerce. On Friday evening, a grand popular dance and guinguette opens the festivities in a warm atmosphere, with an orchestra and open-air dancing. On Saturday, a pétanque tournament brings together players from the commune and surrounding areas, while children's entertainment — carousels, fairground games, inflatable structures — makes this event a quintessential family celebration.
In addition to the flea market, the fair hosts traveling merchants and local artisans who exhibit their creations: pottery, basketry, leatherwork, handmade jewelry. Food stalls offer grills, fries, crepes, and drinks to satisfy visitors throughout the day.
Lamotte-Beuvron, located at the crossroads of Sologne, has always been a town of fairs and markets. The tradition of large fairs dates back several centuries, the commune being a necessary stopping point between the Loire Valley and Berry. The Foire de la Sainte-Anne perpetuates this commercial and festive heritage, attracting thousands of visitors each year from across the Loir-et-Cher department and neighboring departments. The Bassin du Canal, developed along the Sauldre canal, offers a shaded and pleasant setting for this summer event.
