City Festival and Spring Cavalcade in Fontenay-aux-Roses
In Fontenay-aux-Roses, the carnival tradition is expressed each spring through the grand City Festival, which includes a costumed parade through the town's flower-filled streets. Themed floats, costumed groups, and family entertainment liven up this popular event where the town of roses is adorned with colors to celebrate the return of sunny days.
Fontenay-aux-Roses is a town in the Hauts-de-Seine department with 25,000 inhabitants, historically famous for its rose cultivation, which earned it the nickname "town of roses" and its bucolic image. Nestled on a hillside overlooking the Bièvre valley, between Sceaux, Châtenay-Malabry, and the Plessis-Robinson plateau, it offers its residents a pleasant and green living environment.
The carnival tradition in Fontenay-aux-Roses is mainly expressed through the City Festival, a major festive event organized each spring by the municipality. In 2025, this event was held on May 25th on Place du Général de Gaulle and the Parvis de la Mairie, under the theme of Superheroes. A costumed parade animated by leisure centers and associations sets off from the Pre-Teen Club to reach the Parvis de la Mairie around 12 p.m., to the cheers of the public.
The Fontenay-aux-Roses costumed parade is one of the highlights of the festival. Each year, a theme is chosen that unites participants around a creative idea. Children from leisure centers and associations spend weeks preparing their costumes and decorations, creating a collective emulation that makes the day of the festival even more enjoyable. The parade goes through the town's streets, allowing residents to be spectators or participants as they wish.
On Place du Général de Gaulle and the Parvis de la Mairie, the atmosphere is festive all day long, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Association stands, children's activities, concerts, and street performances complement the parade to offer a full day of festivities. On-site catering allows for a full day of good cheer without having to go home hungry.
The organization of the City Festival and carnival demonstrates the associative and cultural vitality of Fontenay-aux-Roses. The town has a dense network of associations and quality cultural facilities. The carnival is an opportunity to bring this community fabric to life and bring together residents from all walks of life for a popular and free celebration, in the spirit of the great neighborhood celebrations that enrich local life in France.
