Format(s): The graphic design event in Strasbourg
Created by the association Central Vapeur, a key player in illustration and comics in Strasbourg since 2010, the Format(s) festival has opened a new chapter by dedicating an event to graphic design. Launched in 2022, the festival has quickly established itself as a major event for creatives in the Grand Est region and beyond.
A rich and multidisciplinary program
Each edition of Format(s) unfolds an ambitious program structured around several axes: exhibitions showcasing posters, artist books, typographies, and digital creations; a graphic art fair bringing together independent publishers, design studios, and creators; conferences led by renowned graphic designers, typographers, and art directors; round tables questioning the challenges of contemporary design; and workshops open to the public to introduce graphic techniques.
Rooted in the Strasbourg creative ecosystem
The festival benefits from its proximity to HEAR (Haute école des arts du Rhin), whose students and graduates from the Graphic Communication workshop actively participate in the programming. This connection between training, creation, and dissemination makes Format(s) a place for transmission and emulation for new generations of graphic designers.
Iconic Strasbourg venues
Format(s) takes over Strasbourg's cultural and heritage sites for its exhibitions and events. L'Aubette, a masterpiece of modern art decorated by Theo van Doesburg, Hans Arp, and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, has notably hosted festival exhibitions, creating a fascinating dialogue between historical graphic heritage and contemporary creation. The festival also takes place at Le 5e lieu, a cultural space of the City of Strasbourg.
Solid institutional support
Format(s) is part of the three-year contract Strasbourg European Capital 2024-2026, with the support of the DRAC Grand Est, the Région Grand Est, the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace, and the Ville et Eurométropole de Strasbourg.
