About Good Old Days

Good Old Days is an American-themed festival held every two years at the Parc des expositions de Belle Isle in Châteauroux, Indre. It was founded in 2009 by the association of the same name, which had been established two years earlier to preserve the memory of the city's former American air base. Over three days, the event features country, rockabilly, and rock concerts, exhibitions of American cars, motorcycles, and trucks, a US Army encampment, and several dance floors.

A festival born from the memory of the Châteauroux American base

American troops were stationed in Châteauroux from 1917 to 1967 at the Châteauroux Air Station, a NATO base located at La Martinerie. In 2007, a group of friends passionate about American machinery founded the Good Old Days association and organized a commemoration on September 29th and 30th to honor the return of former base residents. The high turnout paved the way for the future: the first Good Old Days festival took place on September 26th and 27th, 2009, in partnership with American Country's, a country dance association from Châteauroux.

Jean-François Mayet, then mayor of Châteauroux, wrote in 2011: "The Good Old Days is the most significant event in Châteauroux honoring Uncle Sam's country. Each new edition brings its share of surprises and attracts more people, proving the public's genuine enthusiasm for this type of festive commemoration."

Three days of American spirit at Belle Isle

The festival takes place every two years at the Parc des expositions de Belle Isle, running from Friday to Sunday. An exhibition of American cars, motorcycles, and trucks sits alongside a US Army encampment, and numerous concerts are held throughout the three days, all included in the admission price. Exhibitors, food vendors, and refreshment stands are available on-site.

Country, line, and Catalan dance

Several dance floors welcome dancers to enjoy the three styles featured at the festival: country, line dance (choreographed routines to contemporary music), and Catalan style. The floors are open to both experienced dancers and beginners.

The association board

The Good Old Days association is presided over by Maxence Gerbault, supported by Vice-President Danielle Gilles, Treasurer Valérie Mornac, and Secretary Caroline Fageon. Christian Gilles manages the musical acts and US vehicles, Pascal Mathiault oversees entertainment, and Sandrine Roux and Maëline Mengin handle communications.
