Open-air historical show at the foot of the Bridiers keep
The Fresque Historique de Bridiers unfolds on a spectacular natural site of 5 hectares of marshes, forests, and meadows, dominated by the Bridiers keep, a medieval tower from the 12th century. Over 400 meters of stage open onto a panoramic natural amphitheater, offering spectators total immersion in History. Each edition explores a different historical theme, from the Gauls to the Second World War, including Charlemagne and Napoleon.
Nearly 500 volunteers and about thirty associations bring this extraordinary show to life each year. The performances, designed like a live film, combine the magic of light and sound, giant image projections, period costumes and props, original music, pyrotechnics, and special effects. The Fresque is performed over four evenings in early August, at dusk, in a magical atmosphere.
Since its creation in 2006, the Fresque de Bridiers has become an unmissable annual event that celebrates history, friendship, and community spirit. The 2024 edition, dedicated to Charlemagne, and the 2025 edition, titled "Destins", both sold out with a record attendance of 8,000 spectators. The 2026 edition will celebrate the show's 20th anniversary under the title "Souffles de mémoire", a journey through the centuries in Creuse.
For its 20th anniversary edition, titled "Breaths of Memory", the Fresque de Bridiers offers from August 7 to 10, 2026 a grand open-air sound and light show at the foot of the Bridiers Tower keep, in La Souterraine (Creuse). Four nocturnal performances take the audience on a journey through centuries of Creuse history.
For its twentieth anniversary, the Fresque de Bridiers presents an ambitious show: a couple travels through Creuse aboard a 2CV and crosses centuries, from the Gallo-Roman era to the 1960s. Throughout the journey, they discover a dozen emblematic sites of the department and encounter great figures from its history, such as Zizim, George Sand, Claude Monet, the Creuse masons, the Aubusson tapestry weavers, and the miners of Lavaveix-les-Mines.
Directed by Jean-Noël Pinaud, the show mobilizes approximately 500 volunteers and actors and features between 2,400 and 2,500 costumes (four to six per actor). A new feature marks this anniversary edition: a tourist road trip in a 2CV, in partnership with Creuse Tourisme and the departmental council, offers spectators the chance to discover during the day the places evoked on stage in the evening (breakfast, guided tour, meal, then the show). Tickets for this very limited 2CV trip opened for reservation in February.
