2026 Edition
La Maison Africaine 2026 is a one-day event held on Saturday, May 16th, at the La Mamisèle hall in Saubrigues. It marks the grand finale of the January-May season for Scène aux Champs, the association that manages the venue and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The highlight of this edition is the annual gathering of African percussion and dance schools from the Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques regions. Workshops are open to participants of all levels. Throughout the day, each school will perform while the public explores the venue, enjoying the sound of drums, a photo exhibition, and a Mandinka-inspired artisan market.
The evening features Ah ! Kwantou, a group centered around Ghanaian singer and guitarist Kyekyeku and musicians based in southwestern France. Their repertoire spans highlife, soul, afrobeat, and funk, drawing from their self-titled debut album.

La Maison Africaine: West African Cultures in Saubrigues
La Maison Africaine is the annual flagship event hosted by the Txikan association in Saubrigues, Landes. It is dedicated to celebrating the many facets of West African culture—including music, dance, song, and cuisine—while bridging the gap between traditional and modern disciplines. Txikan, whose name means "the sound that travels," teaches African percussion and dance throughout the year in the southern Landes region.
A Participatory Festival
The festival is structured around three main pillars:
- Workshops and masterclasses in traditional arts: music (djembe and dunun percussion), dance, and singing.
- Musical gatherings featuring local and international artists, including live concerts and communal meals.
- Educational outreach programs held in schools across the local community.
Guest Masters
Each edition invites renowned masters of the disciplines that Txikan teaches year-round. The festival brings together a community of musicians and dancers from the department and surrounding areas, while encouraging newcomers to try their hand at these art forms.
Past workshop instructors include: Manu and Dra Sissoko, Petit Adama Diarra, Harouna Dembele, Ladji Sanogo, Amélie Fereol, Assétou Coulibaly, Jeannette Ngou, Fatoumata Dao, Karamoko Koné, Kouadio Koffi Innocent, Bakary Doumbia, Evelyne Mambo, Fatogoma Dembele, Daudet, Thomas Guëi, Vaness Millet-Lacombe, Khady Sarr, Mariam Eliane Coulibaly, Adama Bilorou, Sophie Abadie, Daniel Preissler, Babara Bangoura, Aminata Touré, Laëtitia Rudy Bonnemain, Nfamoussa Camara, and Ibrahima Bandjougou Coulibaly. Featured groups have included: Doussou Yelen, Tudo Bem, Les Frères Smith, Thomas Guëi et les mains enchantées, Mad Lenoir, Kele kele, Kyekyeku, and Ali Boulo Santo Cissoko. The program has also showcased storyteller Ladji Diallo, films such as L'homme qu'il faut à la place qu'il faut, Africa Paradis, Bronx-Barbès, and Keïta, l'héritage des griots, as well as the craftsmanship of Roselyne Vienne, Hélène Friry, and Alama Diakité (spinning, weaving, and dyeing).
Venue and Partners
The festival takes place at the La Mamisèle hall, located on Place de la Mairie. Partners include the MACS community of communes, the Landes Departmental Council, the municipality and high school of Saubrigues, local schools, and Pôle Sud. The 2026 edition is co-organized with the Scène aux Champs association, which has managed the cultural season at La Mamisèle since 2001.
