Medieval festival at the 15th-century Celon Castle
La Médiévale du Château de Celon is a medieval festival organized every year in September in the park of Celon Castle, near Argenton-sur-Creuse, in the Indre department. Created in 2019, this event hosts medieval reenactment groups with their camps, an artisanal market with over 80 exhibitors, knight tournaments, archery and artillery demonstrations, a regional artists' exhibition in the castle rooms, and a nighttime fire show. A weekend of festivities in a secure park with on-site catering.
The Médiévale du Château de Celon takes place in the park of Celon Castle, an elegant 15th-century fortress located in a small village in the Indre department, near Argenton-sur-Creuse. This castle, currently undergoing restoration, proudly displays its machicolated towers, its spiral staircase, and its wall frescoes. The 18th-century farmstead adjacent to the castle hosts some of the activities and exhibitions.
The Médiévale de Celon has grown over the years. Today, over 80 exhibitors are scheduled for each edition: art artisans, creators, local producers, and medieval merchants. The program offers more than 15 continuous activities over the two days: archery, medieval artillery demonstrations (bombards, arquebuses), armored combat, axe throwing, falconry, and medieval dances and music.
Several medieval reenactment groups set up their camps in the castle park and offer demonstrations of daily life in the Middle Ages. Knight tournaments and equestrian demonstrations animate the afternoons. On Saturday evening, a fire show concludes the first day in a magical atmosphere. In the castle rooms, an exhibition of regional artists and artisans displays paintings, sculptures, and handcrafted creations.
La Médiévale du Château de Celon is a family event organized by the Amicale des Enfants de Celon in a secure park. Medieval taverns offer food and drinks on-site. On Sunday, a flea market takes place in the castle's farmstead. The event has become an anticipated fixture in the medieval calendar in the Centre-Val de Loire region, attracting history and reenactment enthusiasts from all over the region.
