Medieval festival at the castle of Lys-Saint-Georges
La Lice du Lys is a medieval festival organized at the foot of the feudal castle of Lys-Saint-Georges, in the Indre. This event offers a medieval craft market, various activities, and an evening banquet, in the exceptional setting of a 12th-century fortress overlooking the Bouzanne valley. The organizers make it a point of honor to support artisans by offering them an exhibition and sales space. The second edition is scheduled for August 8 and 9, 2026.
La Lice du Lys is a medieval festival that takes place at the foot of the Château de Lys-Saint-Georges, an imposing feudal fortress in the Indre department. Built in the 12th century, the castle's oval keep preserves the remains of a complete defensive system with a drawbridge and machicolations. The current residence, surrounded by a moat still filled with water, was built from the 14th century onwards and became the property of Jacques Cœur, treasurer to King Charles VII, who had the lordly residence built there overlooking the moat.
La Lice du Lys stands out for its firm commitment to supporting artisans. The medieval market brings together craftspeople and creators who showcase their skills in various fields: leatherwork, blacksmithing, illumination, pottery, jewelry, herbalism, and other ancient crafts. The organizers strive to "do their utmost to help artisans" by offering them favorable exhibition conditions, in a heritage setting that highlights their work.
Throughout the weekend, various medieval activities punctuate the festival: weapons demonstrations, armored combat, archery, ancient games, and participatory workshops for young and old. Historical reenactment groups set up their camps at the foot of the castle and offer demonstrations of daily life in the Middle Ages. On Saturday evening, a medieval banquet invites participants to share a meal in the spirit of great lordly feasts, accompanied by music and shows.
