Street arts festival in the streets of Mens, in the heart of Trièves
La Rurale is a street arts festival that takes place in the streets of Mens, a small emblematic town in Trièves, south of the Isère department, between Vercors and Dévoluy. This festival was created in 2020 on the initiative of Stéphanie Bailly and Mathieu Cohin, actors from the Compagnie l'Accord des On, who are based in Trièves and driven by the desire to create a cultural event accessible to all in this rural mountain territory.
For a weekend, the streets, squares, and alleys of Mens are transformed into an open-air stage. La Rurale's program combines carnival, street performances, concerts, artistic walks, a pétanque tournament, and an open stage. Each edition invites several companies and artists to take over public spaces to offer a variety of artistic forms: street theater, dance, circus, music, and performances.
Beyond its artistic dimension, La Rurale is a social connection project rooted in the Trièves territory. The festival was designed to reach the entire population: new rural residents, long-time inhabitants, children, teenagers, the elderly, people with reduced mobility, and tourists. This desire for inclusion makes La Rurale a unifying event, where culture serves as a vector for meeting and cohesion in a sometimes isolated rural area.
The first two editions were supported by the Compagnie l'Accord des On. From the third edition onwards, a dedicated association, La Rurale, was created to take over the organization. This structuring reflects the festival's integration into the local cultural landscape and the founders' desire to perpetuate the event beyond the initial artistic initiative.
The festival experiences the ups and downs typical of associative events in rural areas. The 2024 edition did not take place due to a lack of sufficient volunteers, and the 2025 edition has been postponed to 2026. This fragility reminds us that festivals in rural areas depend heavily on volunteer commitment and support from local authorities. The organizing team hopes to find the necessary strength to offer a new edition in 2026.
The 6th edition of the street arts festival La Rurale, subtitled « So that the street does not die », is confirmed in Mens (Isère) in 2026. Initially scheduled for June 2025, it was postponed by one year by the organizing team (Compagnie L'Accord des On / Association La Rurale) due to a lack of volunteers. As of the update date, the precise dates and detailed program have not yet been published by the organizer — the association is actively seeking volunteers to contribute to this new festive event combining shows, concerts, and conviviality in the streets of Trièves.
After a break in 2024 and 2025 due to a lack of volunteers, the La Rurale festival returns in 2026 to Mens, in the Trièves, for its 6th edition under the motto « So that the street does not die ». Organized by the Compagnie L'Accord des On and the Association La Rurale, the festival proposes, in each of its editions, to combine residents' initiatives, associative proposals, and street art performances: carnival, performances, music, artistic walks, pétanque tournament, open stage for all audiences.
As of the update date of this page, the precise dates and the 2026 program have not yet been officially announced by the organizers. To receive them as soon as they are published, follow the official Facebook page of the festival or contact the association directly (contact details below). The team is also looking for volunteers to participate in the preparation of this new edition.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published by the organizers as of the update date of this page. It will be gradually communicated on the official website of the association (accorddeson.wixsite.com) and on the La Rurale Facebook page.
In previous editions, the festival offered three days of street art shows for all audiences, evening concerts, activities for young audiences, artistic walks, and convivial gatherings in several village locations (Pré-Colombon, gardens, tennis court, communal garages). For any information or to volunteer, contact the association at [email protected].
