Toul's open-air contemporary music festival in Meurthe-et-Moselle
Born in 2005 in the backyard of Michel's house in Bulligny, Le Jardin du Michel has become one of the most iconic contemporary music festivals in the Grand Est region. Organized annually at the end of May in Dommartin-lès-Toul by SCIC Turbul'lance, it brings together over 20,000 festival-goers for three days of eclectic programming mixing rock, electro, hip-hop, reggae, and world music. Driven by a cooperative spirit and a family-friendly, festive atmosphere, the festival has, for twenty years, cultivated the art of hosting international headliners alongside musical discoveries.
Le Jardin du Michel is a contemporary music festival held in Dommartin-lès-Toul, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, at the heart of the Grand Est region. Every year at the end of May, it takes over the Allée de l'île des sables for three days of open-air concerts that bring together over 20,000 festival-goers.
The story began in 2005 in Bulligny, a small village in Meurthe-et-Moselle, when a group of friends passionate about music decided to create the association JDM-Festival. The festival was then called "Au fond du Jardin du Michel" (In the backyard of Michel's), referring to the land lent by Michel Legrand, a village resident. The programming was mainly rock-oriented, with a DIY spirit and accessible prices. Over the years, the festival grew, diversified its programming, and attracted a wider audience.
In 2017, facing growing logistical constraints, the festival moved from Bulligny to Toul, a medieval town that hosted the event at the foot of its ramparts. In 2023, the festival relocated more precisely to Dommartin-lès-Toul, to the green site of Allée de l'île des sables, offering an ideal natural setting between meadows and canals. Located 30 minutes from Nancy, 1 hour from Metz, and 2 hours from Strasbourg, the site is remarkably accessible.
Since its creation, Le Jardin du Michel has been a deeply collaborative project. Today organized by SCIC Turbul'lance (Société Coopérative d'Intérêt Collectif), it relies on the commitment of hundreds of volunteers and a close-knit permanent team. The festival champions values of solidarity, accessibility, and environmental responsibility, with concrete actions in waste sorting, reusable cups, and ecological awareness.
The strength of Le Jardin du Michel lies in its programming, which skillfully blends international headliners and emerging artists. Over the years, the festival has hosted top artists: Manu Chao, Cypress Hill, Sum 41, Alice Cooper, Tryo, Matmatah, Dub Inc, Polo & Pan, Rilès, Fonky Family, Kyo, Superbus, and many others. From rock to hip-hop, electro to reggae, world music, and punk, all contemporary music genres find their place on the Jardin's stages.
The campsite is directly adjacent to the festival site and offers a true extension of the festival experience. Accessible with a ticket and camping pass, it also accommodates converted vehicles, campervans, and caravans in a dedicated area. On-site, an association village, food trucks, bars, and entertainment complete the offering for total immersion in the world of Le Jardin.
The 21st edition of Le Jardin du Michel will take place from May 22nd to 24th, 2026, in Dommartin-lès-Toul. The lineup features Ofenbach, Louis Bertignac, Magic System, Meute, Biga*Ranx, Lilly Wood and The Prick, Adèle Castillon, Yamê, Yaniss Odua, Sniper, Nèg'Marrons, and many other artists over three days of open-air festival.
