Multidisciplinary music and performing arts festival in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne
Born in 2021 on the initiative of the association Les Pantacruels, the Le Meilleur des Mondes festival brings together an eclectic program each summer in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, mixing reggae, ska, dub, rap, electro, techno, and bass music. Two days of concerts, giant games, activities, and conviviality by the Yonne river, for a popular, committed, and accessible event for all.
The Le Meilleur des Mondes festival is the work of the association Les Pantacruels, founded in December 2019 in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne under the 1901 law. The association's name is a nod to François Rabelais's Pantagruel, a guiding figure of sharing, life's pleasures, celebration, and intellectual curiosity. These values have underpinned the festival project from the start: openness to the world, generosity, artistic diversity, and rootedness in local life.
Initially planned for August 2020, the festival was postponed by one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The first edition finally took place on August 14, 2021, at the Petitpied stadium in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, with an original concept: a chain of invitations where each artist programs the next, giving the lineup a completely local and Yonne-based flavor. Arnaud Askoy (Jacques Brel covers), La Chose (rap/hip-hop), Aki Agora (electro/rock), and Edmond Grincelière (psychedelic electro) formed this first lineup, for about 250 spectators.
From the second edition in August 2022, the festival opened up to artists from wider horizons while retaining its warm, volunteer-driven spirit. The association invested in stage equipment—including an 8m x 4.5m stage built by the volunteers themselves after more than 130 hours of work—and strengthened its partnerships with the municipality, the Departmental Council of the Yonne, and local patrons.
The third edition in 2023 marked a turning point with the emergence of a distinct space called Tribal Garden, dedicated to electronic, tribal, and chill sounds: techno, dub, dubstep, and psychedelic music coexisted there in a more introspective atmosphere, contrasting with the main stages. This innovation durably shaped the festival's format.
In 2024, the fourth edition (August 2-3) crossed a symbolic threshold with a national lineup: Didier Super (offbeat chanson), Davodka, Billy Ze Kick, Monty Picon, SaphireLeFleur, Lady Bazaar, and Roots Zombie headlined the main program, while the Tribal Garden hosted Desty Nova, Tikal, Vallou, and D2S. More than 600 festival-goers per day flocked to the Passage du Port Brûlé, confirming the festival's growing appeal.
For its fifth anniversary, the Le Meilleur des Mondes festival boasts a high-caliber lineup spread over two evenings, from August 1st to 2nd, 2025, with hours from 5 PM to 2 AM. Entry is free from 5 PM to 6 PM to enjoy the associative village, giant wooden games, and food stalls, before the concerts begin.
Friday, August 1st:
— Vanupié (reggae-soul): a renowned singer and guitarist on the French reggae scene, influenced by soul and sunny melodies
— Fils de Teuhpu (explosive ska): a high-energy ska collective, heir to the great Anglo-Saxon bands
— Dubamix (committed electro-dub): an essential figure in French dub, blending political commitment and hypnotic basslines
— Taalkimia (tribe techno): a tribal electronic set to close Friday night
Saturday, August 2nd:
— Pierre Hugues José (festive rap): an MC with incisive lyrics and infectious energy
— Kind of Queen (Queen rock tribute): a live homage to the legendary band, with careful costumes and staging
— Cactus et Mammuth (electro-rock): a duo with hybrid sounds, between alternative rock and electronic music
— Tribal Garden: BigTOOf (mixed techno), D2S (drum and bass), Tikal (deep dubstep)
Prices remain accessible: €15 per evening, €20 for a two-day pass, free for children under 12. No pets, no outside alcohol. All exits after 10 PM are final.
The festival takes place at the Passage du Port Brûlé, near the Marcel Roy Stadium (formerly Petitpied or Gustave Petitpied stadium), on the banks of the Yonne river. Villeneuve-sur-Yonne is a royal fortified town founded in the 12th century by Louis VII, still surrounded by its medieval ramparts. This town of 5,000 inhabitants, one hour from Auxerre and two hours from Paris via the N6, offers a historic and green setting of great quality to host a summer festival.
The Port Brûlé site, close to the riverbanks, benefits from a pleasant microclimate and favorable natural acoustics. The municipality actively supports the event, which contributes to the city's cultural influence during the peak tourist season.
The festival's strength lies in the volunteer energy of the members of the association Les Pantacruels. Located at 22 rue des Merciers in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, the association aims to “promote, organize, and develop culture, art, and performing arts” in its town. Throughout the year, it carries out complementary activities: themed evenings, participation in the Fête de la Musique, and organization of associative lotteries to fund future festival editions.
The association also leads a festival risk prevention initiative: information stands, on-site first aid services, dry toilets, and attention to waste reduction demonstrate a growing commitment to a more responsible event.
6th edition of the Le Meilleur des Mondes festival in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, scheduled for August 2026. Two evenings of multidisciplinary concerts organized by the association Les Pantacruels at the Passage du Port Brûlé. Reggae, ska, dub, rap, electro, and bass music on the program, with the Tribal Garden. Ticketing and lineup to be announced on lespantacruels.com.
The association Les Pantacruels is preparing the 6th edition of the Le Meilleur des Mondes festival for the summer of 2026 in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne. True to its proven format — two evenings of concerts at the Passage du Port Brûlé site, an associative village with free access in the early evening, and a Tribal Garden dedicated to electronic music — the festival will solidify its place as a must-attend cultural event in the south of the Yonne region.
Following the success of the 5th edition in 2025 (over 600 festival-goers per evening, national lineup), the association aims to maintain its artistic standards while preserving the volunteer-driven, friendly, and accessible spirit that makes the festival unique. Prices will remain deliberately affordable, with free entry in the early evening for families and the curious.
The full lineup will be announced in the weeks preceding the event on the official website lespantacruels.com and on the association's social media.
The festival takes place at the Passage du Port Brûlé (Marcel Roy Stadium site), 89500 Villeneuve-sur-Yonne. The site is outdoors, near the banks of the Yonne river, easily accessible on foot from the historic town center.
