The open-air rock festival by the Chausselière lake
Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais is an open-air rock festival organized annually by the Djunbox association at the Chausselière lake, in La Guyonnière (Montaigu-Vendée). Born in 2020 from the passion of a group of Vendée rockers, this free event offers an eclectic rock program mixing local, regional, and international bands. In an exceptional natural setting by the lake, the festival celebrates rock in all its forms — garage, punk, alternative rock, rock'n'roll — and fervently perpetuates the spirit of open-air concerts, accessible to all.
Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais was born in 2020 from the energy and conviction of a handful of enthusiasts united within the Djunbox association. In La Guyonnière, a delegated commune of Montaigu-Vendée, these rock lovers decided to create a festival in their image: free, friendly, and resolutely focused on the live rock scene. The chosen setting — the Chausselière lake and its leisure center — offers a magnificent natural backdrop for hosting open-air concerts, amidst shimmering waters and the green bocage of Vendée.
Each edition of the festival features a carefully curated lineup, reflecting the diversity and vitality of the contemporary rock scene. From gritty garage rock to furious punk rock, from inventive alternative rock to classic rock'n'roll, Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais enthusiastically explores the many facets of the genre. The 2023 edition notably hosted We Hate You Please Die, Diamond Dog, The Twin Souls, and Black Boys on Moped, while the 2022 edition brought The Gulps from London alongside French bands like The Blind Suns and The Radioactive.
This program, mixing international acts and bands from the greater West, demonstrates the organizers' ambition: to offer the Vendée public quality concerts, in a spirit of discovery and sharing, without financial barriers since admission is free.
Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais is fully integrated into the associative and cultural fabric of Montaigu-Vendée. The Djunbox association, chaired by Yann Bossard, doesn't just organize this annual festival: it enlivens local cultural life throughout the year through record fairs, concerts, and solidarity events, notably in support of the Cap Pour la Vie association in the fight against cancer.
The festival traditionally takes place around the Fête de la Musique (Music Day) in June, transforming the shores of the Chausselière lake into a space of musical freedom where all generations gather. From 6 PM, the first chords resonate over the water, and the evening continues late into the night, fueled by the energy of the bands and the enthusiasm of a loyal and growing audience.
What makes Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais unique is its unwavering commitment to free admission and accessibility. In a festival landscape where ticket prices continue to rise, Djunbox bets on an event open to all, funded by the bar, donations, and support from local partners. This philosophy attracts a diverse audience — families, young people, seasoned rockers — and contributes to making each edition a moment of authentic sharing.
Year after year, the festival proves that rock is not dead; it lives and pulses in the Vendée countryside with the same intensity as in large Parisian venues. By the Chausselière lake, under the sky of La Guyonnière, Le Rock Ne Meurt Jamais lives up to its name.
