Festivales des Alpes — edition 2024
9th Edition: Les Festivales des Alpes 2024
The 9th edition of Les Festivales des Alpes took place from July 26 to August 2, 2024, in Turriers and several communes in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The festival once again brought together musicians, composers, and street artists for a week of concerts and encounters in a mountain setting.
The program combined works from the classical repertoire and contemporary creations, performed by the Trio Piano and Co, guest ensembles, and soloists. Free public rehearsals opened the creative process to the public, while street performances animated the village square. The traditional shared picnics concluded the days in a friendly atmosphere.

A Music Festival at the Foot of the Peaks
Created in 2015 by pianist Nathalie Négro, founder of the ensemble Piano and Co, Les Festivales des Alpes were born in the village of Turriers, a community of 300 inhabitants perched at 950 meters above sea level in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Born from the desire to bring scholarly music closer to rural mountain areas, this event offers a week of concerts, creations, and musical encounters between late July and early August each summer.
Classical Music and Contemporary Creation
The festival is distinguished by its demanding program that blends classical repertoire and contemporary creation. Works by Rossini, Piazzolla, or Steve Reich are featured alongside pieces commissioned from living composers such as Jean-Michel Music Music Music, Kui Dong, and other creators invited to write specifically for the event. The performers — Trio Piano and Co, Quatuor Piano and Co, Trio Lazulis, Choeur régional Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, and guest soloists — deliver high-quality performances in venues with remarkable acoustics.
Exceptional Concert Venues
Concerts take place in several emblematic sites of the region:
- The village hall of Turriers, the heart of the festival, hosts concerts-meetings and creation evenings.
- The village square of Turriers transforms into an open-air stage for street performances and musical picnics.
- The church of Rosans and other heritage buildings in the surroundings serve as settings for sacred and chamber music concerts.
- Concerts are also held in Rousset, La Motte-du-Caire, and surrounding villages.
Street Arts and Conviviality
Beyond the concerts, Les Festivales des Alpes cultivate a spirit of celebration and sharing. The Compagnie du Petit Monsieur offers free street performances — burlesque sketches, parades, and performances — in the village square. Public rehearsals are open for free, allowing the public to discover the musicians' work before the concerts. Shared picnics bring together artists and festival-goers in a warm and relaxed atmosphere, true to the festival's spirit.
A Commitment to Contemporary Music
Supported by the association Piano and Co, a music production structure founded in 2003 by Nathalie Négro and recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Les Festivales des Alpes contribute to the influence of contemporary creation in rural areas. Each edition includes at least one commission to a composer, thus fostering the birth of new works in an environment conducive to inspiration. The festival benefits from the support of the Centre de documentation de la musique contemporaine (CDMC) and is part of the network of creation festivals in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
