World fife and flute festival in Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac, on the banks of the Garonne
Les Fifres de Garonne is a traditional music festival dedicated to the fife and world flutes, organised annually on the banks of the Garonne in Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac (Gironde). Created in 1991 on the initiative of the association Les Sous-Fifres de Saint-Pierre, this emblematic event in Nouvelle-Aquitaine highlights local musical heritage while welcoming artists from here and elsewhere. The programme includes: concerts, traditional dances, country meals, performances, introductions to traditional dance and shows for young audiences, all in a friendly and family atmosphere.
Created in 1991 by the association Les Sous-Fifres de Saint-Pierre in collaboration with the GAVES association and with the support of village structures, the Les Fifres de Garonne festival has become, in over thirty years, one of the major traditional music events in Gironde. It takes place every year in Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac, on the banks of the Garonne, in a rustic and warm atmosphere.
The festival highlights the fife — a popular transverse flute emblematic of the South-West — and, more broadly, world flutes. Concerts, traditional dances, performances, tributes and artistic encounters follow one another for three days, bringing together amateur and professional musicians, local groups and international guests.
Beyond the artistic programme, Les Fifres de Garonne is a true place for meetings, creations and exchanges that brings together musicians, artists, residents, institutions and audiences around a collective project. The festival practices the collection, modernisation and reinterpretation of traditional repertoires in conjunction with other regional and national groups.
Les Fifres de Garonne is a free festival, accessible to people with disabilities. It is co-organised with the IDDAC (Institut Départemental de Développement Artistique et Culturel de la Gironde) and benefits from the support of the Gironde Department and the commune of Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac.
Located on the banks of the Garonne, near Langon and La Réole, Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac offers an ideal natural setting for a summer festival. The festival site, route de la carrière, hosts open-air concerts, country meals and evening dances under the plane trees.
The 35th edition of the Les Fifres de Garonne festival takes place from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026 in Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac, on the banks of the Garonne.
