Open-air sound and light show in Jussac
Since 1997, the show Les Gens d'Ici has illuminated the Jussac green theatre every summer, a small town located near Aurillac in the Cantal department. This open-air sound and light show has become over the years a major cultural and festive event in the region, listed on the Cantal calendar as an unmissable appointment.
The show tells the intertwined destinies of two men, Baptiste and Pierrot, inextricably linked to the same land and the same philosophy of life. Through their journeys, the entire soul of Cantal is revealed: the life of a small rural village, its joys and hardships, the choices of those who leave and those who stay, the major historical events that have shaped the region. The show offers a living and moving fresco of Cantalian rural life, told with authenticity by those who live it daily.
The strength of Les Gens d'Ici lies in its actors: more than 250 volunteers, residents of Jussac and its surroundings, take to the stage every summer to bring this story to life. All generations mingle, enthusiastically perpetuating this beautiful human adventure. The know-how of the volunteers in terms of sets, scriptwriting, musical composition, and staging is combined with the talent of professional show technicians for sound, lighting, and pyrotechnic effects.
The show takes place at the Jussac green theatre, a natural amphitheater made of grassy earth tiers, stabilized by wooden logs, which can accommodate about 1,200 spectators. This exceptional outdoor setting offers total immersion in the world of the show, under the stars of the Cantalian summer nights. For more than two hours, spectators are transported into the heart of an authentic and touching story thanks to light effects, sound effects, and pyrotechnic displays.
Organized by the Comité d'Ambiance Jussacoise, Les Gens d'Ici is more than just a show: it is a collective project that unites an entire rural community. The pleasure of performing, transmitting values, and contributing to the dynamism of a rural territory animates each participant. This human and artistic adventure, renewed each year for almost three decades, testifies to the cultural vitality of rural France and the ability of its inhabitants to create together an event of recognized quality far beyond the department's borders.
The Les Gens d'Ici show is expected to return for its 28th edition at the Jussac green theatre in August 2026. True to its tradition since 1997, this open-air live sound and light show will once again bring together more than 250 volunteer actors to tell the story of Cantalian rural life through the intertwined destinies of Baptiste and Pierrot.
The exact dates and program will be announced later on the official website. The show usually takes place over several evenings in August, with performances starting at dusk at the green theatre.
The green theatre is located at 2 Promenade des Sports, 15250 Jussac, in the Cantal department (15), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Jussac is about 7 km northwest of Aurillac.
