Les Impromptus: Excellence in Chamber Music in Southern Burgundy
Founded in 2016, the Les Impromptus festival was born from a desire to foster the development of the arts in Saône-et-Loire and contribute to the diffusion of musical culture in the Mâconnais-Tournugeois region. In just a few editions, this young festival has become a benchmark for chamber music lovers, thanks to a demanding program and invitations to internationally acclaimed musicians.
Exceptional Venues for Intimate Music
The festival takes place in the abbey halls of the Abbaye de Tournus and the charming village of Ozenay, nestled in the heart of the Mâconnais vineyards. The Abbaye de Tournus, with its Saint-Philibert abbey church, considered one of the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in France, offers an exceptional acoustic and visual setting for chamber music. The cloister and conventual rooms create an atmosphere of intimacy conducive to listening and exchange.
Three Evenings of Classical Music
Each edition features three evenings of concerts bringing together chamber music ensembles—duos, trios, string quartets, quintets—performing the great repertoire from Mozart to Brahms, from Beethoven to Fauré. The proximity between artists and the public, a characteristic of Les Impromptus, allows for an intense and shared musical experience.
A Festival Supported by the Region
In partnership with the City of Tournus and supported by the Departmental Council of Saône-et-Loire, Les Impromptus benefits from strong territorial roots. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of the Mâconnais-Tournugeois and enhances the tourist appeal of this renowned wine region, located between Tournus and Cluny.
A Loyal and Growing Event
From one edition to the next, Les Impromptus builds a loyal audience of music lovers who come to discover chamber music in an exceptional setting. The festival has created a human-sized event where artistic quality takes precedence, in the tradition of great European chamber music festivals.
