About Médiévales de Suscinio

Les Médiévales de Suscinio are a medieval festival organized every year in May at the Domaine de Suscinio, former residence of the Dukes of Brittany located in Sarzeau, on the Rhuys peninsula in the Golfe du Morbihan. For two days, the 13th-century castle and its surroundings are transformed into a living medieval encampment with knightly shows, historical demonstrations, participatory workshops, a medieval market, and period music and dances. The event offers an immersion into the Middle Ages within one of Brittany's most beautiful castles.

Les Médiévales de Suscinio: Relive the Middle Ages at the Dukes' Castle

Every May, the Domaine de Suscinio in Sarzeau opens its doors for a journey back in time with Les Médiévales de Suscinio. This 13th-century castle, a former hunting lodge of the Dukes of Brittany, provides a majestic and authentic setting for this historical festival.

Two Days of Medieval Epic

For two days, the castle and its grounds host a program rich in entertainment and shows:

  • Knightly Shows with the Écuyers de l'Histoire and other reenactment groups
  • Historical Encampments showcasing daily life in the Middle Ages
  • Participatory Workshops: archery, calligraphy, blacksmithing, weaving
  • Medieval Market with artisan crafts and merchants
  • Medieval Music and Dances
  • Period Scenes and Processions in historical costumes
  • Medieval Banquets and Flavors

An Exceptional Castle

The Château de Suscinio, owned by the department of Morbihan and managed by Kléber Rossillon, is one of Brittany's most visited monuments. Its imposing ramparts, moats, chapel, and restored halls offer a spectacular backdrop for medieval events. Castle visits (self-guided or with audio guide) are included in the Médiévales entrance ticket.

A Preserved Natural Setting

The Domaine de Suscinio is surrounded by a protected natural area: marshes, dunes, and coastal forest form an exceptional landscape between the Golfe du Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can extend their discovery with a walk along the estate's trails.

Médiévales de Suscinio — edition 2026

The Suscinio Medieval Festival returns on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the Domaine de Suscinio in Sarzeau, in the Gulf of Morbihan. For this 2026 edition, the castle of the Dukes of Brittany celebrates the arrival of Anne of Brittany in Suscinio at the end of the 15th century: historical encampments, equestrian jousts, a medieval market, artisans, period music and dances transport visitors to the heart of the Middle Ages.

2026 Edition: Anne of Brittany in Suscinio

On the weekend of May 23 and 24, 2026, the Domaine de Suscinio in Sarzeau plunges into the late 15th century to celebrate the arrival of Anne of Brittany at the Dukes' castle. Two days of continuous entertainment from 10 AM to 7 PM, within and around the fortified castle surrounded by its moats.

Shows and demonstrations

  • Equestrian jousts and foot combat by the troupe Les Écuyers de l'Histoire, at 11:30 AM and 4 PM, in honor of Anne of Brittany
  • Medieval music and dances at 11 AM, 2 PM, 3 PM, 4 PM and 5 PM
  • Skits, theatrical strolls and historical reenactments throughout the day
