Classical music and jazz in the Berry region
The Musicales de Saint-Genou were born from the desire to offer quality concerts in an exceptional heritage setting: the Saint-Genou abbey church, a jewel of Romanesque art in the Val de l'Indre. Since its creation, the festival has built a loyal following of passionate music lovers by offering a program each summer that is both demanding and accessible, where classical music dialogues with jazz.
Two weekends, four concerts
The festival unfolds over two weekends with four concerts alternating between two emblematic venues: the Saint-Genou abbey church, whose acoustics enhance acoustic instruments, and the Salle Jean Bénard in Buzançais, which is more suitable for jazz ensembles and amplified groups. This duality of venues reflects the festival's dual musical identity.
An eclectic repertoire
The programming of the Musicales de Saint-Genou embraces a vast musical repertoire. The first weekend is traditionally dedicated to classical music and chamber music, with works by Bach, Monteverdi, Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Schubert, and Offenbach. The second weekend opens up to contemporary music and jazz, with programs dedicated to gypsy jazz, Gershwin, or original compositions. This diversity attracts a wide audience, from discerning music lovers to curious individuals of all generations.
A festival rooted in the Val de l'Indre
Supported by the Communauté de communes Val de l'Indre - Brenne and the municipalities of Saint-Genou and Buzançais, the Musicales contribute to the cultural animation of this rural area. The festival hosts renowned artists as well as promising young talents, including laureates of the Victoires de la Musique Classique. The accessible prices—15 euros for full price and 8 euros for reduced price—reflect the desire to make classical music accessible to all.
A revival after the interruption
After a two-year hiatus due to the health crisis, the Musicales de Saint-Genou have resumed with the same momentum and the same founding principle: four quality concerts over two weekends, in the heritage sites of the Val de l'Indre. The 2025 edition, the sixteenth of its name, confirms the vitality of this festival, which has found its place in the musical landscape of the Centre-Val de Loire region, notably by featuring a tribute to Django Reinhardt and a concert by cellist Iris Scialom, Victoire de la Musique 2025.
