The festival with secret routes in the Avesnois countryside
Created in 2002 in Aulnoye-Aymeries, Les Nuits Secrètes is a unique contemporary music festival in France. Its signature: the "secret routes", where festival-goers board buses to unknown destinations and artists, to experience concerts in unusual locations in the Avesnois region. Three days of rock, pop, electro, and world music attract 30,000 festival-goers each July.
Les Nuits Secrètes is a contemporary music festival born in 2002 in Aulnoye-Aymeries, in the Avesnois region. Initially named Les Estivales, the event took the name Les Nuits Secrètes in 2003, affirming its unique identity based on surprise and discovery.
The festival's trademark lies in its famous secret routes. The principle is simple and bold: festival-goers board buses without knowing the destination or the artist they will discover. They are taken to unusual places in the area — barns, forests, abandoned factories, private gardens — to experience intimate and surprising concerts. This approach transforms the Sambre-Avesnois territory into a vast open-air stage.
Each edition offers a program mixing rock, pop, electro, hip-hop, world music, and experimental music. Over the years, the festival has hosted internationally renowned artists such as Mika, Bigflo & Oli, Madness, Disiz, Feu! Chatterton, Yelle, Kompromat, and many others, while also making ample room for discoveries and emerging artists.
Les Nuits Secrètes plays a major role in the cultural dynamism of the Avesnois. The festival unites over 300 volunteers and revitalizes a rural area often far from major cultural centers. An on-site campsite allows festival-goers to fully experience the three-day event. The atmosphere is known for being convivial, warm, and family-friendly.
The festival is committed to an eco-responsible approach with the implementation of reusable cups, waste sorting, partnerships with local producers for catering, and encouragement for carpooling and public transport.
The 2026 edition of Les Nuits Secrètes will be held from July 10 to 12 in Aulnoye-Aymeries. Mika, Bigflo & Oli, Madness, Disiz, Feu! Chatterton, Yelle, Adèle Castillon, and many other artists are announced for three days of music and secret routes.
