About Les Planches Fêlées

Created in 2016 by the Jeune Compagnie du Théâtre de l'Escabeau, the Les Planches Fêlées festival takes over the courtyard of the ferme de Rivotte in Briare, Loiret, every year. For three days in May, this former farm, which became a theater over forty years ago, transforms into a Temporary Utopia Zone (ZUT), hosting theater, circus, dance, clown, cabaret, concerts, and exhibitions. Driven by a friendly and participatory spirit, the festival highlights young companies in a rural setting with camping, homemade meals, pétanque, and a free-price bookstore.

Les Planches Fêlées: A Theatrical Utopia in the Loiret Countryside

Since 2016, the Les Planches Fêlées festival has established itself as a unique artistic event in the cultural landscape of the Loiret and the Centre-Val de Loire region. Organized by the Jeune Compagnie du Théâtre de l'Escabeau, this human-sized festival takes place every year in May in the courtyard of the ferme de Rivotte, in Briare, a former model farm transformed into a theatrical incubator over forty years ago.

Three Days in the Temporary Utopia Zone

The festival invites the public to join the ZUT — Zone d'Utopies Temporaires — for three days of shows, encounters, and sharing. The intentionally eclectic program mixes theater, street theater, circus, dance, clown, cabaret, concerts, film screenings, and exhibitions. The festival particularly highlights young companies and emerging artists, true to its mission as an artistic incubator.

A Place Steeped in History

The Théâtre de l'Escabeau is much more than just a performance venue. Located in a farm in the middle of the fields, bordered by woods and close to the Loire River, this place of creation and cooperation houses three entities: the professional Escabeau Company, the Amateur Escabeau Company, and the Young Escabeau Company. It is the latter that organizes the festival, reflecting its diversity of practices and its infectious enthusiasm.

A Festive and Solidarity Spirit

Les Planches Fêlées cultivates a resolutely friendly and participatory spirit. Beyond the shows, the festival offers free-price camping with dry toilets and solar showers, a flea market, a free-price bookstore, a bar, homemade meals, and pétanque and mölkky courts. The Apéro Cabaret, a highlight of each edition, brings together artists and festival-goers for a drink in a warm atmosphere.

Accessible Prices for All

True to its values of sharing and accessibility, the festival offers intentionally low prices: shows are available from 5 to 9 euros, and the Apéro Cabaret is offered at 12 euros with an aperitif and drink included. This three-tier pricing system allows everyone to contribute according to their means, with solidarity, break-even, and support prices.

A Family Outdoor Festival

Open to all audiences, the festival welcomes families in a rural and safe environment. Children can enjoy adapted shows, treasure hunts, and outdoor activities. The "utopian-sympathetic" atmosphere of Les Planches Fêlées makes it a special time to slow down, meet, exchange, and create new conscious traditions together.

Les Planches Fêlées — edition 2026

The 10th edition of the Les Planches Fêlées festival took place from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Rivotte farm in Briare, in the Loiret. Three days of shows in the « ZUT » — Zone of Temporary Utopias — presented by the Jeune Compagnie du Théâtre de l'Escabeau and its guests: theatre, circus, dance, clown, cabaret, concerts and DJ set, with an inaugural cabaret on Thursday evening, a concert night on Friday, and a testamentary cabaret on Saturday evening to celebrate the festival's 10th anniversary.

10th Anniversary Edition — May 14, 15 and 16, 2026

The Les Planches Fêlées festival celebrated its 10th anniversary from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the courtyard of the Rivotte farm in Briare. Three days in the « ZUT » (Zone of Temporary Utopias), with about ten shows distributed between the Grande Salle (Main Hall), the Petite Salle (Small Hall), the Espace Accueil (Reception Area), and the Extérieur (Outdoor), as well as an inaugural cabaret and a concert night.

The Jeune Compagnie du Théâtre de l'Escabeau, organizer of the festival, invited eight companies for this anniversary edition: the Jeune Cie de l'Escabeau (Inaugural Cabaret), l'École Actéon (« Le Dernier Jour du Jeûne »), Iris Bonnant & Élisa Amenel (« Zora »), the Collectif Gobe-Lune (« Le Passage »), the Cie À l'Orée (« La Kahina »), Kosmik Schmoutz (« Mon Prof est un Troll »), the Cie Magari (« Les Chats se Cachent pour Mourir »), Grand Gaillard (« Belle pour Mourir ») and the Cie Sous la Mousse (DJ set « Pulse Auguste »). Singers Justine Chasles and Moera June performed during the Friday evening concert.

Three-tier solidarity pricing

True to its values of accessibility and fair artist remuneration, the festival offers three optional prices per show: Colibri Féerique at 5 € (solidarity price, the association loses a little money), Milan Noir at 7 € (the association does not lose money and compensates the companies), Élanion Blanc at 9 € (the association does not lose money and pays the companies). The inaugural Cabaret on Thursday evening is offered at 12 € with meal included.

On-site camping and catering

As with each edition, free-price camping is available on site with dry toilets and solar showers. A bar and homemade meals are offered throughout the festival, as well as a flea market, a free-price bookstore, and pétanque and mölkky courts.

  • 6:00 PM — Mol'hier d'aujourd'hui · Outdoor · free · 1h15 · The students of Francine Leca de Sancerre college come to (re)discover Molière through their contemporary gaze, in comedies-laughs in a horde, and either appropriated scenes from the repertoire of the most famous French playwright to prove one thing to you: they are timeless!
  • 8:00 PM — Le Passage · Collectif Gobe-Lune · Grande Salle · 1h · « Sometimes things are so possible that it's as if they've already happened. » On a whim, just because the weather is nice, a teenager runs away into the immense city. A day and a night of wandering and encounters lead him to the juvenile criminal court. To prevent the judges from declaring this story true, with disjointed things that have nothing to do with anything, Zach decides to tell his own slip-up.

He establishes an authoritarian regime with the obsequious complicity of the teachers. Alice and Max no longer know who to trust. No one — not even the President of the Republic — seems willing to help them. Left to their own devices, they learn the Troll language and lead the students in a joyful rebellion against injustice.
  • 5:30 PM — Les Chats se Cachent pour Mourir · Cie Magari · Petite Salle · 1h · Anouk loves Chou, Chou loves Anouk; they live a perfectly ordinary life. Chou loves to say rude words, Anouk loves music as a way to explore the world. Above all, they love to be and make each other laugh. When Anouk gets tired, a change begins: illness will enter their lives. Ill-equipped, they face it, alone and together. Is their laughter enough to conjure a solid armor? In the intimacy of their living room, they invite us to follow them, for a while.
  • 8:00 PM — Belle pour Mourir · Grand Gaillard · Grande Salle · 2h · from 14 years old · What if we met to celebrate before dying? Tender and insolent, this testamentary cabaret offers a last dance to let the swan sing. Here, dying becomes an act of beauty — and shining, a way to never disappear…
  • 10:15 PM — Pulse Auguste · Cie Sous la Mousse · Outdoor · 1h15 · A DJ set like no other: a vinyl DJ set, nothing abnormal so far — except that the turntables are taken over by three clowns, determined to make your spine tingle. From progressive house electro to trance and techno, passing through some sweet bangers like Peter and the Wolf, they like to stamp clean and clear because « it has to pulse ».
