Indie and psychedelic rock festival in Angers
Created in 2013, Levitation France is the French version of the famous Levitation festival in Austin (Texas). Held annually in June on the banks of Lac de Maine in Angers, it brings together fans of independent rock, psychedelic music, post-punk, and sonic experiments. Co-produced by Radical Production and Le Chabada, the festival has established itself as one of the major European events for fans of alternative music.
Born from a twinning between Austin (Texas) and Angers in 2011, Levitation France is the French version of the legendary Levitation festival (formerly Austin Psych Fest), founded in 2008 by members of The Black Angels. In 2013, about twenty artists came to Angers for the first edition, programmed by the Austin Psych Fest team at Le Chabada, an iconic concert venue in the city.
The festival quickly grew and settled on the banks of the Lac de Maine, at the Pyramide du Lac de Maine, offering an exceptional natural setting by the water. The Black Angels, Beak>, Damo Suzuki, and many others have played there to audiences from all over the world, captivated by this historic first edition. The alignment of rock planets did the rest: The Black Angels' French promoter, Radical Production, was based in Angers.
Each year, Levitation France presents a lineup blending independent rock, psychedelic music, post-punk, shoegaze, garage rock, and sonic experiments. The festival hosts both international headliners and emerging artists, in a spirit of discovery and musical sharing. The programming is jointly managed by Radical Production, Le Chabada, and The Reverberation Appreciation Society from Austin.
The festival will take a break in 2026 due to major renovation work on the Pyramide du Lac de Maine site, making the installation of the festival temporarily impossible. Levitation France will return in 2027 on a completely renovated site, ready to offer new cosmic vibrations.
