Lire sur la Vague: Youth Literature by the Ocean
Since 2015, Lire sur la Vague has been the annual meeting point for lovers of youth literature on the Landes coast. This free festival, alternating between Seignosse and Hossegor, offers a joyful and stimulating immersion into the world of youth literature and comics, in the heart of an exceptional natural setting between the ocean and pine forest.
A Commitment Against Illiteracy
Lire sur la Vague is not just a literary festival: it's a committed project. The association behind the event, chaired by Jean Delas, founder of the renowned publishing house L'École des Loisirs and a resident of Hossegor, is dedicated to the fight against illiteracy, particularly among the young, by promoting books and reading among public communities and families.
About Twenty Authors and Illustrators
Each edition brings together around 20 authors and illustrators of youth literature, who come to sign their works, lead creative workshops, and meet their young audience. These privileged encounters between creators and readers are at the heart of the festival, fostering the transmission of and taste for reading.
A Rich and Varied Program
The festival offers a range of activities designed for all ages:
- Creative Workshops: illustration, writing, comic creation, bookbinding
- Shows: storytelling, theater, puppetry, and musical readings
- Exhibitions: original illustrations and artists' works
- Literary Games: fun activities centered around books
- Signings: autograph sessions with invited authors and illustrators
- Encounters: round tables and discussions with book industry professionals
A Free Festival for All
Access to all events and activities is completely free, in line with the festival's social mission. This free access allows it to reach the widest possible audience, including families who may be less exposed to culture and books.
Strong Local Roots
Lire sur la Vague benefits from the support of the municipalities of Seignosse and Hossegor, the community of communes MACS (Maremne Adour Côte-Sud), and the Department of Landes. The festival is part of the cultural dynamism of the Landes coast and contributes to the literary influence of the region.
