The pop-rock festival of the Limoges urban area
Born in 2016 on the Esplanade du Mas de l'Âge in Couzeix, Lost in Limoges is a contemporary music festival run by the volunteer association Limoges Here We Come. On a former military site converted into a festive space on the outskirts of Limoges, the festival brings together international pop, rock, indie, and electro artists over two days of open-air concerts each summer. Iggy Pop, Foals, Pete Doherty, Nada Surf, and Superbus have graced this stage in front of nearly 10,000 festival-goers, in a "rurban" setting combining urban proximity and rural greenery.
The Lost in Limoges festival was born from a collective dream: to offer the Limoges urban area a major contemporary music event capable of rivaling the biggest festivals on the French scene. Driven by the association Limoges Here We Come, the project germinated in 2013, initially through a crowdfunding campaign to gauge public interest in Limoges for such an event. The response was unequivocal: the desire was definitely there.
Initially planned for the Beaublanc municipal park in Limoges, the festival had to reinvent itself when the city withdrew the site in November 2015. It was the commune of Couzeix that then opened its doors, providing the Esplanade du Mas de l'Âge, a former green military site on the outskirts of Limoges. This "rurban" setting—at the crossroads of city and countryside—quickly became the festival's very identity, offering an unexpected green haven to host international headliners.
From its very first edition in July 2016, Lost in Limoges made a strong impact with a prestigious lineup led by the legendary Iggy Pop, accompanied by Nada Surf, Superbus, Fakear, Stuck in the Sound, Josef Salvat, Jabberwocky, The Shoes, Puggy, Last Train, and Radio Elvis. The second edition in 2017 confirmed the ambition with Foals, Pete Doherty, Les Wampas, Naive New Beaters, Nada Surf, The Inspector Cluzo, Talisco, Holy Two, and Las Aves. Twelve artists on the main stage, blending rock, pop, indie, and electro.
Lost in Limoges stands out for its commitment to the environment and respect for the neighborhood. The festival has implemented an exemplary acoustic monitoring system in collaboration with the University of Limoges, with noise measurement stations accessible in real-time via smartphone. Camping is available on-site, catering favors short supply chains, and the entire organization relies on the work of a team of passionate volunteers dedicated to the comfort of festival-goers and the quality of life for residents.
With nearly 10,000 festival-goers from its very first edition, Lost in Limoges demonstrated that the Limoges urban area could host a nationally significant contemporary music festival. The Esplanade du Mas de l'Âge, with its vast flat area and easy access, offers remarkable potential for combining a festive atmosphere with immersion in nature. A festival that continues to make rock resonate on the outskirts of Limoges.
