MAC3 Festival: Where Music and Contemporary Art Dialogue in Dole
The MAC3 Festival - Music & Contemporary Art is a cultural event that takes over the Cloister of the Hôtel-Dieu in Dole each summer, one of the jewels of the city's architectural heritage. For two weeks in July, the festival offers a sensitive dialogue between classical music and contemporary art, blending aesthetics and generations.
A Free Contemporary Art Exhibition
The artistic component of the festival unfolds in the cloister and adjacent rooms with a free contemporary art exhibition, open daily from 3 PM to 7 PM throughout the festival. The 2025 edition notably featured a retrospective of the artist Joseph Ginet, covering 25 years of creation with monumental wooden sculptures displayed outdoors in the cloister, accompanied by drawings and ceramics.
Excellent Classical Music Concerts
The musical part of the festival offers a series of six evening concerts, bringing together young talents and renowned musicians around a demanding classical repertoire, rare pieces, and improvisations. The festival has hosted artists such as Camille Théveneau (violin), Volodia van Keulen (cello and Indian sitar), Florent Ling, Matvey Zheleznyakov, and Maroussia Gentet (piano).
An Exceptional Heritage Setting
The Cloister of the Hôtel-Dieu, with its arcades and inner garden, provides a remarkable setting for concerts and the exhibition. In case of rain, concerts are held at the Auditorium Karl Riepp, a reference venue for musical life in Dole.
