A unique archaeological site as a setting

The Medieval Festival of the Motte Castrales takes place on an exceptional archaeological site: the An Mil motte castrales, vestiges of a fortified complex dating from the 10th century, located in the hamlet of La Tour in Saint-Dizier-la-Tour, near Chénérailles. This remarkable site, a testament to the defensive architecture of the An Mil period, provides an ideal setting for an immersive historical reenactment that plunges visitors into the daily life of the early Middle Ages.

Medieval camp, combat, and troubadours

The festival program features a reconstituted medieval camp where historical reenactment groups bring to life the daily lives of medieval warriors, artisans, and peasants. Visitors can witness combat demonstrations, troubadour shows, medieval music, and period dances. Archery workshops allow young and old to try their hand at archery, while cart rides offer a peaceful discovery of the site.

Artisan market and local products

A large medieval market brings together local producers offering cheeses, honey, apples, cured meats, eau-de-vie, herbal teas, and saffron, as well as artisans showcasing pottery, jewelry, leatherwork, blacksmithing, soap making, and ceramics. This space for discovery and tasting highlights the local Creuse region and artisanal know-how, in a festive and friendly atmosphere. More than 2,000 visitors participate in this unique event each year.
