About Les Médiévales

Les Médiévales de Crèvecœur are a historical reenactment festival that takes place every summer at the Château de Crèvecœur-en-Auge, a remarkably preserved 15th-century rural lordship. For eight days, about sixty enthusiasts bring medieval daily life back to life with knightly tournaments, craft workshops, interactive investigations, and authentic medieval catering based on period manuscript recipes.

An authentic medieval castle in the heart of the Pays d'Auge

The Château de Crèvecœur-en-Auge, a 15th-century rural lordship, is a unique site in Normandy. Surrounded by a moat, the castle retains its original layout with the lord's manor, the chapel, and the half-timbered farm buildings. Every summer, this exceptional setting hosts Les Médiévales, a historical reenactment festival that immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.

Spectacular knightly tournaments

The opening of Les Médiévales is marked by spectacular knightly tournaments presented by the troupe Chevalerie Initiatique. Equestrian jousts, sword fights, and demonstrations of medieval weapon handling offer a striking spectacle within the castle's fortified walls. These tournaments are the highlight of the festival's first weekend.

Living history and interactive investigations

For eight days, about sixty enthusiasts in period costumes bring the castle back to life as it was in the 15th century. Visitors participate in interactive investigations: they interact with the castle's inhabitants, discover the preparation of the harvest festival, and try to solve riddles to uncover what is disturbing the peaceful life of the lordship. The reenactments include demonstrations of medieval crafts, cooking, and daily life.

Authentic medieval catering

The castle's shop offers authentic medieval catering: beef pasties, Lombard chicken, cream dariole, and old-fashioned macarons. All recipes are based on medieval manuscripts, offering a unique and historically accurate culinary experience.

Les Médiévales — edition 2026

The Crèvecœur Medieval Festival returns from August 3 to 10, 2026, to the Château de Crèvecœur-en-Auge, in the Pays d'Auge (Calvados). For eight days, around sixty reenactors bring to life the daily life of a 15th-century seigneury: chivalry tournaments, interactive investigations, craft workshops, cooking demonstrations, and authentic medieval catering.

The Medieval Festival 2026 — the harvest preparation

From August 3 to 10, 2026, the Château de Crèvecœur-en-Auge immerses its visitors in the heart of the 15th century. The theme of this edition is the preparation for the harvest festival. Around sixty enthusiasts in period costumes recreate the daily life of the castle around 1474.

The chivalry tournaments, presented by the company La Chevalerie Initiatique, open the week on August 3 and 4, with two performances per day (2:30 PM and 4:30 PM).

Throughout the week, the public participates in interactive investigations: characters embodied by reenactors interact with visitors to solve riddles. In addition, there are demonstrations of medieval crafts, cooking, and daily life.

The medieval catering offers dishes inspired by recipes from Middle Ages manuscripts: beef pâtés, Lombard chicken, cream dariole, and old-fashioned macarons.
