The world's largest hot air balloon gathering in Chambley
Mondial Air Ballons, renamed Enenvol in 2025, is the world's largest hot air balloon gathering. Held at the Chambley-Bussières airfield in Meurthe-et-Moselle, this event brings together hundreds of hot air balloons from various nationalities for spectacular dawn and dusk ascents. Founded in 1989 by Philippe Buron-Pilâtre, the historic event gathered up to 456 balloons simultaneously, a world record. After 18 editions, the baton was passed in 2025 under the new name Enenvol.
Since 1989, the Chambley-Bussières airfield has hosted the largest hot air balloon gathering on the planet. Created by Philippe Buron-Pilâtre, great-grandnephew of the pioneer of aerostation Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier, Mondial Air Ballons has become a global event over the years, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The heart of the event lies in the mass ascents, moments of grace where hundreds of hot air balloons rise simultaneously into the Lorraine sky:
After 18 legendary editions, the last under the historic name was held in 2023, with Philippe Buron-Pilâtre retiring. In 2025, the ABC group took over under the name Enenvol, with its first edition from July 25 to August 3, 2025. The event has retained the spirit of Mondial Air Ballons while incorporating new activities: concerts, a symphonic fountain, a children's village, corn mazes, and introductory flights.
Chambley airfield, a former NATO base, offers an ideal location for this event: a 2,500-meter runway, vast open spaces, and a preserved rural environment. The site, renamed Chambley Planet'Air, has become a center for aeronautical leisure and hosts activities throughout the year.
The 2026 edition of Enenvol, initially scheduled from July 24 to August 2, 2026, has been canceled. The future of the event is uncertain after only one edition of the Mondial Air Ballons successor.
