Short Films in the Spotlight in the Marne
The Montmirail Film Festival is a cultural event that highlights French and European short films in a small town in the Marne. Led by the Espace Loisir Culture association, founded in 1966, the festival offers a demanding yet accessible program that attracts film lovers, professionals, and local residents. The film selection is made with the support of the Agence du Court Métrage, ensuring a high level of quality among the hundreds of submissions received each year.
A Prestigious Competition
The heart of the festival is its official competition, which brings together seven short films selected from over 360 submissions. Each film is presented by its director or team, allowing for rich exchanges between filmmakers and the audience. Five awards are presented: the jury prize for best film (with a €1,500 prize), the prize for best actress (€500), the prize for best actor (€500), the audience award (€750), and the high school jury award (€750). These awards demonstrate the festival's ambition to support cinematic creation.
A Complete Cinematic Weekend
The festival takes place over two days at the Le Don Camillo cinema and the Roger Perrin hall in Montmirail. The opening night is dedicated to screening a feature film, followed by a discussion with the film's team. The next morning, a conference-debate is organized, and the afternoon is dedicated to the short film competition. The awards ceremony concludes the festival in a warm atmosphere, followed by a closing cocktail that encourages exchanges between filmmakers and spectators.
A Commitment to the Territory
The Montmirail Film Festival benefits from the support of the European Union (Leader fund), the Grand Est Region, the Marne Department, the town of Montmirail, the Brie Champenoise community of communes, and private partners such as Crédit Agricole Nord Est. This strong territorial anchoring makes the festival a lever for cultural revitalization for this rural area of the Marne, contributing to the attractiveness of the territory and access to culture for all.
