Free Concerts and Grandes Fêtes de Lens around June 21, 2026
Every June 21, Lens celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival) as part of the Grandes Fêtes de Lens, three days of free festivities in the city center. Open-air concerts, a grand Carnaval du Monde (World Carnival), a beer festival, and a waiters' and waitresses' race enliven Place Jean Jaurès and the surrounding streets. The day is entirely free and open to everyone.
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Lens into an open-air stage every June 21. In Lens, it is part of the Grandes Fêtes de Lens, a popular weekend that adorns the city center with thousands of musical notes and colors, from early afternoon until the heart of the night. Amateur musicians and artists perform for free in the streets and squares.
The Grandes Fêtes de Lens bring together three highlights around Place Jean Jaurès and the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall). The Fête de la Musique takes over the streets with its free concerts, including a rock stage set up on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. The Carnaval du Monde (World Carnival) deploys its floats, brass bands, and dazzling costumes through the center, on a route connecting Rue Lanoy, Place Jean Jaurès, Boulevard Basly, Rue J. Letienne, and Rue de la Paix. The beer festival, with its stands of local brewers and merchants on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, and the traditional waiters' and waitresses' race complete these festive days.
